    VHF radios

I placed this model on my list of must buys for tonight. That and a dock box, garden hose, air horn as the horn on the boat is an insult and some other miscellaneous items.

    VHF radios

Mainly emergency situations. Nice to monitor chatter to see if the bite is on anywhere or if weather is rolling in.

    VHF radios

A fixed unit will come, but I want a hand held. I won't be going off shore. (I always stay a swimmer's distance from shore with the exception of exiting the mouth of the Hudson heading south to Sandy Hook. Even then I'll often run the coast just for the view.

    VHF radios

I'll be using the Hudson river and south to the Jersey shore. All salt unless I go way north on the river.

    VHF radios

The ones I am looking at have the battery pack as well as a AA or AAA back up option. Thanks, good idea for sure.

    VHF radios

I'm in general agreement with you. A basic high power as I could get always served my purpose as I never venture too far from the coast. That said, with this boat being bigger and me most likely will be hosting a fair number of non-boaters I thought it might be best to spring for an extra buck...

    VHF radios

I don't imagine many that fish/boat on small lakes always carry a VHF with them. But for those of you that do, can you recommend one brand or model over others?

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Jet skis, eat huge amounts of gas for their size, so do go fast boats, so if you think cost is a factor that seems to fly in the face of cost. I'm just getting back into boating after nearly a 10 year layoff, so I can report locally in a few months as to how busy the waters are. For now as...

Closed loop cooling O/B or Mud motor

I just came across this brand in another forum. For you guys that fish the swamps and back bays, this could be for you. It's expensive as hell, but with closed loop cooling it's interesting. https://www.freedom-outboard.com/motors.cfm

    What year?

The number at the top right is the Yamaha model number and year. The number denotes the outboard's HP, and the last letter denotes the outboard's year of manufacture. In the picture above, the F225TXRC outboard's 225 means it's 225HP and it was manufactured in 2004. So as a guess, yours is a 2002.

    NGK BUHW2- vs - Champion L78V

If you can search google from other countries, maybe you can buy it elsewhere and have them shipped.

What have you been up to lately?

Well I hope I don't do anything sink worthy, but it's as easy as leaving out the drain plug, so you never know.

Has anyone made a homemade OB motor lift strap to hoist motor onto boat?

As a kid, I just tied a length of rope around my engine and hoisted it up off the boat in the water using a block and tackle fastened to the railing of the upper dock. Shady by real standards but it never let me down.
