I picked up an '87 model Aluma-weld Mod-v bass boat a few months ago. It came with a 40hp Johnson, a small fish finder and a trolling motor. The carpet was shot, the tilt/trim was shot and the boat had just been painted. The recent paint job made me a little cautious about it having some bottom damage but I like a good challenge, so I bought it.

The first thing I did when I got it home was rip the carpet and interior out. I figured the foam would be water logged and boy was I right. I pulled four 30 gallon garbage bags of water logged carpet and foam out of the boat. When Alweld put the foam in, they clogged all of the water routes to the bilge, so any water that got in, was just soaked up by the foam. I cleared the water passages and will be putting sheet foam back in. (do not try and discuss foam with me.)

Next I pulled the motor off and built a stand for it.

Next I built some big saw horses and turned the boat over to start sanding the paint off. If I am going to put my family in this boat, I want to know what the bottom is like. The guy I bought it from said "heck naw maaaan it don leak." Boy was that a lie. I started sanding the paint off and found ALOT of holes in the bottom. I will be patching these holes and painting the entire hull with duralux jon boat green. I have used it on a previous boat and love it.

I just purchased a '88 Evinrude 60hp with tilt/trim that will be replacing the 40hp. I will also be installing a small stereo & bimini top (for the wife/kids), hand controlled trolling motor, Lowrance 7HDI chartplotter/sonar/down imaging, and hydroturf on the floor.

More pictures to come.

Its the anti fatigue mats from pepboys. Sears and some other autoparts stores carry it as well. It comes in a 4'x8' roll and is 1/4" thick. I put it down with contact cement.
