Hey yall! My name is Tony i hail from a little down in South Carolina called Bluffton, i have had a fishing pole in my hand since i could walk and i get that from my father who is a HUGE bass fisherman. I bit the bullet recently and bought my first boat. I picked up a 1542 mod v 1994 monark with a 1993 Mercury 20hp tiller (electric & pull start) boat and motor are in great shape, the trailer needs some love but i will take care of that.

I will be using this boat primarily for bass fishing, which freshwater is tough to find by me in the coastal "low country" but i might get a wild hair and get out in some salt and redfish a little bit. Which im sure this boat can handle some brackish waters.

im going to post a bunch of pics off the bat of when i first bought her, i ripped everything out then today i went ahead and gave her a camo paint job, and started the decking using 2x2s, bracing, SS screws, waterproofed the pressure treated wood, starting the carpet tomorrow.

let me know what yall think and i will update once i get more progress! thanks!

Looking good! I was considering getting an angle welded to my transom in the middle, much like your's, to relieve some of the pressure when raising/lowering the motor. Where does your transom flex when you are raising/lowering your motor? Are you running any electrical up front for a trolling motor?

Mine will flex just a little above that angle but very solid. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to have the 2 batteries in the back and run the electrical. Or have 1 battery up front for the trolling motor and the rear for the motor and depth finder.

Got the boat almost done! Just need trolling motor and the seats!

Hi welcome to tin boats.
You don't want to use pressure treated wood on an aluminum boat. The copper used to treat the wood is a dissimilar metal to the aluminum. It will cause the aluminum to corrode.

Understood. Both companies I used "weather shield" and "yellawood" both are okaying the use of their new PT lumber in contact with aluminum.
