I've wanted to build a jet boat since I was in high school, about 12 years ago. I finally found the perfect donor boat and drove to Missouri from my home in Illinois to pick it up last night. Its a 1957 16 foot V bottom of some kind, I was hoping you guys would be able to identify it. I plan on grafting a jetski pump / motor into it and using it to fish the small rivers around my area. It will be getting a deck, live well, lights, radio, you know all the goodies. It does have some battle scars that I plan on fixing with a rivet gun. Probably ought to paint it. I remember hearing of some kind of product I could use to seal the inside of the boat from leaking but I can't remember the name. I'm still brainstorming the setup I want right now but will start working on it in the next week or so.

hull design reminds me of the old green Nordic era crestliners heavy but tough boats.

I ordered a gallon of gluvit and I found a oil field supply company that sells the green sealer sticks that cabelas used to sell for fixing leaks in aluminum boats. I ordered 20 sticks :) I have a seadoo xp to graft in. My question for you guys is will that motor be large enough for a 16ft boat?

Im not an xp expert by any means but I think it would do ok. What is the HP rating of the engine? Also, are you wanting just enough umph to get up on plane and cruise or do you want to be able to do 40+ mph?

I just want to get up on plain. If I could do 20 or 30 I'd be happy. Worst case scenario I can do a motor swap down the road.

I think you will be fine then with what you have planned. It may not be neck snapping out of the hole but it will plane the boat out and scoot down the water just fine.

So I've made a lot of progress, but I haven't made many post. I promise to get some pictures up soon. The question I have now is, can i Rhino line over gluvit? Not sure if that stuff is epoxy friendly or not. Also I bought the big can of gloveit, but I would like to do two sessions. Anybody ever try to cut the gallon can in half and the hardener in half so you could have two sessions?
