Hello all,
Been lurking here now for quite sometime. Just completed my topper 1436. Chose not to deck all the way up to seat, went to the water line instead for some extra stability when I'm standing. Very please with how it came out. May make some small changes as I fish from it more & more. First thing is a bow mount foot control trolling motor. Currently have a transom mount with a bigfoot pedal for now which I had on my crawdad, works ok but a foot control would be better. Also bought a 9.5 hp (that's a 6hp in the pic) that is just right for 1436. I get about 17-18 mph with just me & all my gear. Any questions or comments feel free. Tight lines!!

Looks great. Almost makes me want to put some decking in my 12' Jon. But I really need to finish my 69 Starcraft first. :)

What is the purpose of the ledge/shelf on the port side? Curious.

Thanks,
That's just to lay my rods across, with velcro rod holders.
Have a very active 6 yr old who loves to fish with me, was afraid he would fall on them & get hurt or break em.

Looks great. As far as a front trolling motor. You might just switch the head on your transom mount forward and run it from the bow. Your big foot will give you control, though steering will be manual. Try it. You might like it. Costs nothing.

Yeah, that's exactly how I have it set up. Works good, but foot control would be better.
One problem I'm having is making a mount for the transom mount on the front of the boat. I've almost lost the motor twice, there's a lot a of flex on highest speed. Any ideas?

The couple that I have made over the years were simple 2x6's with galvanized L brackets for support. On one, I put the L brackets on both the "top" and the "bottom" of the rig. After a year or so, I pulled out the wood screws and replaced them with through bolts.

You are correct. A trolling motor can put out a fair amount of pressure when running on high. More importantly, you can break it off if you hit a rock.

The LINK below shows a welded mount. Would be great if you weld, or know a friendly welder. richg99

Looks good Bassman! How do you find the stability if you're standing while casting? How is it with the 9.9? Is it enough motor for your mods and two people and gear? I just put a Tracker 1436 on hold, and am looking at both an 8 hp and 9.9 hp Merc to power it.

Stability is good. The front deck is at water level so its perfect for that boat. I've tried standing on the rear deck & it does get a little tippy. You just have to be aware of how your moving around in the boat. The 9.5hp evenrude is also just right, with just me in the boat I'm hitting 17-18 mph, with an other adult I'm hitting 15-16 mph (i'm 185# my son is 130#).

Good luck with your build!!

Has anyone put a livewell in the center seat of a 1436?

I think that's my next mod?

Any help or advise would be appreciated!

i am in the process of a livewell here https://forum.tinboats.net/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=36437 if you want to look. i can take more in depth pics of the setup as i finish insulating, framing, and adding scupper valves if you would like and i can post them in my overboard thread?
your boat came out really nice!

Very nice work. I am looking at the Topper 1540 or the Alumacraft 1540 at Academy. Did you use aluminum or plywood under the carpet? What thickness or gauge is it? It looks as though the seats have something on them under the carpet. Your plank for the rods is a nice touch. Great job!

Used 3/4" plywood, treated the plywood with water sealer.

Seats have swivels under them.

Go as big as your budget will allow you to, the topper is a 1542. Wish I had gone up to the 1542 for the extra $$. A little more room for a few extra $$ would have been worth it!

Good luck!
