putting interior in my jon soon and was considering just carpeting it but was woried about it holding moisture. Has anyone coated the plywood with Grizzly grip instead of carpet? if so how long has it been done and how it it holding up. Thanks

Mike,

If you're using plywood, you might also consider a product Home Depot sells called Deck Restore. It won't work on aluminum, but appears to be perfect for wooden decks. It's about half the price of Grizzly Grip and comes in a huge selection of colors. I'd use it myself if I hadn't put in aluminum decks.

I'm interested in an answer to this, I was wondering the same thing as I approach my own build. I am inclined to assume that if you seal the wood with spars or some other urethane of the like and let it dry nice and thoroughly, the grizzly grip should go down and stay down without much of an issue. But I'd like to know if someone's done it as evidence to my theory!

edit: Cool feature this forum has, letting me know someone has posted while I was typing! DaveInGa, you reminded me that I saw this stuff when I was staining my deck earlier this year, I totally forgot about it! It definitely looks interesting, adds what looks to be a thick textured coating to the wood, as well as water seals it... might kill two birds with one stone? The website says the stuff was originally created by the developer in order to restore his boat dock and protect it from the elements.... promising!

They have a good deal of colors available too!

I used it on the floors and bench tops of my boat. I applied a thin coating of epoxy to seal the wood first, then lightly sanded and applied Grizzly grip. On the bench tops, their made of aluminum, so I had to primer them first.

It's holding up just fine after 2 years.

Whatever you do, make sure to seal the wood first.

The boat is a little dirty in this picture. The best part is, you just use a wet towel to clean up.

Some folks may like that stuff, but I think it looks like refried rat crap.

Krawler, your build looks real nice... but you aint going to catch anything on those orange grubs!

I got Herculiner on some of my wood. Put something down first...thinned down paint, spar urethane, something. I've found that on the untreated wood, abrasions on the liner will pull the fiber out of the wood. You will get a peeling effect in high traffic areas. Spar is easy to work with, and it's cheap.

Here are some pictures of my "refried rat crap" :LOL2: all the upper surfaces are done with fine grizzly grip. It was applied directly over the plywood (No primer) just a good sanding. It has been on the boat for over a year and still looks great. "I love my refried rat crap" :LOL2:

Oh and it was very easy to work with.

I used flooring non skid paint and it is available in a couple of shades of gray on my plywood benches and floors. It's been two seasons now with no signs of deterioration.

pretty sure the rat crap comment was directed at the deck restore product home depot sells

Pretty sure you’re right but funny just the same - just thinking of refried rat crap makes me laugh - Rat crap does remind me of rice so refrying makes sense and I meant no ill will towards jigngrub.

PS I will be using "Refried Rat Crap" as my new descriptive word - jigngrub I hope you have no patent rights on the phrase

I wish now I had used wood for my decks. Something uptown like "refried rat crap" should be all the rage soon and using it I'd be in style for once. I like the look of the refried rat crap better than the look of the mickey mouse marine vinyl I decided against in my boat.

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking showing my secret trout lure.

Oh man, there's gonna be a run on those at BPS, Cabelas and Dick's now!!! Maybe WallyWorld will have 'em...

i was thingking of carpet for my deck and seats, but now i think i'll go with refried rat crap.

orange grubs are killers, i use them as trailers when snakeheads are spawning when every predator is quick to grab an unguarded snakehead fry........

Grizzly Grip is pretty good stuff. The nice thing about it is, it comes in many colors. One suggestion that I can make if you decide to use it is, buy three or more rollers as you won't find them locally. Use a fresh roller for every coat for that professional look.

I don't know what it is about those orange grubs, but sometimes they out fish all my other lures.

Here is some lure porn. The best color is hot peach.
