Anyone successfully repaired cut wires on a transducer? Some thing got into mine and cut it in a couple of places. One place is about where it goes in the transducer. I know the wire for the temp gauge is broke because the temp was all over the place. The rest seemed to work right. I figure its trash. Am I right?

Thanks
Steve

Those are some awfully small wires that go to a transducer, like AWG22 or maybe even smaller. It would be difficult to splice them. If you attempt it, use adhesive-lined heat shrink butt connectors, then, wrap each splice with 3M splicing tape.

what kind of depth finder? if its not real fancy you may be able to repair them, that being said id have to say theyre trash. any scrape, kink etc..... will affect your reading and resolution. i do know a buddy who had his hb matrix 27 wires cut and he fixed them and his worked good still. i know on my 798SI if min e were damaged it would screw everything up but its way more fancy than his....my .02 cents.....

Its a Hummingbird 561. Nothing special just a plain jane fish finder. I did look at it closer today and done some investigating found two spots, one the wires were almost cut and the other place two wires were cut so being that there is only three I am going to attempt to repair it and see what happens. I still havent figured out how it happened unless the rope from the rear anchor got into over the weekend as it was windy(thats a understatement).

According to Google, WalMart has the transducer for $50. (Humminbird XNT 9 20 T)

have read where they can be repaired but you have a 50/50 shot at it working right. Read where you should solder the connection using the appropriate solder, use heat shrink on each internal wire, wrap it all in foil (?) and then seal up the entire connection with heat shrink as well. check out crappie.com as I think that is where I read it.

 It basically has to be a perfect repair, otherwise you will get a ton of interference(wrong readings). Your best bet is to look for a used one in good condition.

Ok heres what I did. Soldered the wires used heat shrink tubing on each wire. put the rf shield back on like from the factory and then heat shrink tubing over all of it. Then used liquid tape on the outside to ensure that it was sealed up watertight. So now to try it out. I did turn the finder on and the temp gauge worked so that works! I looked on Walmart like someone suggested but I never see one that cheap. Just have to get it out on the water and see what happens. Looks like a good excuse to go fishing!!

good luck!!! if it dont work go to HB's website and get one, they are fairly cheap and worth it unless you want a new finder...

I have a hummingbird transducer that came off my boat. Not sure of the model number for the fish finder, but you pay for shipping and its yours.

The bad part is the fishfinder is a couple of months old so a new one(fishfinder) is out of the question. Havent taken it out on the water to see if it works yet. Was going to do that this weekend but things came up but its going to be nice all week so maybe thursday afternoon or friday morning. T Man you have a pic of the end that plugs into the head unit I can tell if it will work with mine or not. I am interested in it if it will work with mine. Just PM with your info. If I do buy a new transducer I think I will get one that goes on the trolling motor and then mount the old fishfinder in the rear of the boat.

Thanks
Steve
