The glue will hold better if you sand the aluminum with 80 grit before applying it. Ill be putting hydroturf in my boat here soon and plan on using either dap weldwood or 3m super 90 to hold it down to the scuffed up aluminum deck. -Dan

Thanks! I didnt grind all of it yet I still have to finish some of the welds and clean it all up...im hoping to have all the welding done this weekend so i can paint some time next week. Im planning on riveting down the decks so its still posible to get them back out if i need to.

update: Took the rear deck out chopped it down some. Used stripper wheels, wire wheels, wire brush, scotch pads, and sand paper to clean up the inside and prep it for gluvit. Re "bucked" all leaking rivets. Painted gluvit on all rivets and seams inside and out and let it dry for 48 hours before...

I am using 5052 1/8 (.125) on my build.. I just purchased 1 sheet 6x4 and 3 sheets 5x4 for about $380. I also got a sheet 8x4 in 12 gauge (.90) also 5052 for about $90 to build my console so I was able to compare if 12 gauge would have been enough and I think it would all depend on the amount...

Thanks for the feedback guys! As far as the steering housing im planning on mounting a teleflex rack and pinion style system to the cover plate i welded on and putting 1/4 diamond plate behind it for support. Not sure if that answers your question?
