looks like the other brace on your seat is a pop rivet. easy to use. when I did mine I used pop rivets where it wasnt really a structural element. And used solid rivets for things like the z brace that the transom wood sits in...
hit stump opening day, f d it up. still in the works. But we did get ducks on the opener! motor has been down since then. might not ever be up again. just an update....
Yup, I cant even remember how old I am but I know mid 30s. Guess I was thinking about the gluvit then. Good catch! Thats why I put the "I believe" clause in there! lol
Dang near the boat as mine. 16 ft star craft ss. Wish i did the ski locker when i had mine gutted for additional storage. Once you have yours gutted you can see you stringer layout and go from there. Find a lid on c list and frame in a box. Most use aluminum. And there you go.
Update and it has been awhile:I havnt done anything since the splash to the boat but a new (old correct(hopefully)) tiller handleis on the way. Thought I would have it today, looks like it will be here Monday.

try this link for info on your boat. you will find everything you need to know about it.
Nice size john boat you got. When replacing any wood make sure you do not put any pressure treated wood in there. Its not friendly to aluminum! use good exterior grade sealed with Spar or other means!
That pop rivet gun with the mandrel catcher is a great Idea for these boats. When I removed my knee brace I found a clump of rusted ones under it. Who knows how many are under the ribs! Good choice there!
Got this old girl in the water finally! Motor ran fine but there is tweekin to do in the shifter and throttle. other than that there were no leaks and got on plain just fine! fishin and hunting ready.
Nice boat to start with. That circle near the light makes me think it may have had trailer guides if there is the same thing on the other side of the trailer?
Got the motor on and tiller installed. It wasnt a direct fit though. Had to make a bracket for it go on. That still needs work and the key ignition needs wiring in still. Work is on hold I think until I can buy everything I need to get the rest done in one shot.
