Pretty sure I'm about to take the motor to the shop - I did get it running, using starting fluid. Can keep it running with occasional bursts of starting fluid, so it's gotta be a fuel delivery issue.
Fuel pump is my next guess.
It's acting exactly like it did before I replaced the defective...
Not sure where to start. I've had my 1996 mercury 6 running fine for a while now. Was getting an air leak into the fuel line so I removed the quick disconnect and just put a straight barb fitting and clamps in place instead - this was a while back and its been running good for some weeks now...
Not leaking at the tank, mine leaks where my female quick disconnect fitting meets the male fitting on my outboard. It locks on properly and everything and is definitely the right size - the shop only had 2 sizes of Mercury and I bought both and one fits perfect.
Yet it will leak fuel when...
Having a new problem with my motor. Was running fine yesterday and day before with no issues...
Today I took it out and it would no longer siphon the fuel from the tank. I had to keep pumping the primer every 2 minutes or so in order to keep it running.
Fuel tank, line, and primer bulb are...
Actually had a chance to fish on the deck yesterday... I'd say its a bit more stable if anything. Easier to stand on a flat surface compared the curve of the V bottom. A pedestal seat to lean against would definitely inspire a little more confidence for someone like myself who doesn't really...
Thanks man, put a whole lot of sweat into this thing. It's not completely done, but 95%. Had it out in the water today for the first time with my Merc 6.... I gotta say, that little motor really took me by surprise the first time I opened the throttle up. Actually pulls pretty hard.... can't...
Will include more detail as to how I got to this point but here she is as she sits today. Pretty much ready for water. Just gotta install battery and fuel tank.
Some reading has informed me otherwise... there is indeed a fuel pump. Going to assume that's most likely the cause here.
I'm now assuming that the water pump is located directly on the carb and throttle housing area? That's where the feed line from the fuel filter leads into the carb...
Okay guys, this is a new-to-me motor. Sat in a storage unit for a year an was used with no problems the previous summer/fall - this is what the previous owner says. It's a 1996 2-stroke Merc 6hp. I'm still hopeful that the previous owner was truthful regarding the condition of the motor and...
Deck and switch panel cut. We got a solid week of rain coming so I'll be sanding/sealing it in the garage. Still gotta cut the hatch doors but otherwise all wood is done.
Framework finished minus actually mounting it. Gotta seal it up first!
The frame on the rear of middle bench is going to house a utility panel. Switches, USB/aux outputs, etc. Was thinking about using 2x4 for this frame and installing speakers in the cavity but I think I'll stick with...
I like that seat slider quite a bit. Would be very useful for that rear bench for sure.
For the wire I was thinking of just using some adhesive and a PVC pipe for running wire up and down the length of the boat. A hole drilled in the PVC anywhere I need a couple wires. Easy to expand on in...
Got all my lumber cut and drilled for the transom and bow deck. Painting those and coating in spar urethane. Spent the rest of my evening getting the frame ready. Just gotta get the door hatch framed in where I'm putting them and ready to get the plywood cut hopefully tomorrow.
Thanks for that, I actually didn't know that! I love a good DIY mod, so I may definitely need to look into that.
Was just drawing up a general idea of the layout. Fish finder up front on the other side of the TM, forgot to put that in there. Kinda like the idea of the control board on the...
