Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Me and my young grandson wear ski vests. Not too bulky and even though the self inflating vests are likely pretty reliable, if they fail, you're screwed. A ski vest will never fail you.

    Johnson 6 Project

So everything ignition related has been checked, cleaned, and set. Still no spark. Suggestions? I'm going to clean the points with lacquer thinner just for gits and shiggles, but I've done the old business card trick so they should be fairly clean. Guess it could be the plug wires, but they...

    Filling old drill holes?

Since seems were discussing epoxies and JBW now, I'll add that the JB Kwik is crap! It dries quickly, but is not very strong. On the other hand the 5 mins epoxy you can get at Harbor Freight, just like JBW, has never failed me. If you don't have time to wait, I heartily recommend this goo.

    Johnson 6 Project

I was actually thinking that myself. Thanks for the suggestion. One of these has obviously been replaced, is it the cracked one? Must be pretty low quality. I have another good used OMC coil, but am not looking to drag out the project. Just want to get it running and on the transom of my Elgin...

    Filling old drill holes?

I'd like to add that in all my years using JB Weld, I've yet to see it rust. How come? I used it on a alum snowmobile block one time and ran that engine for years with no issues.

    Johnson 6 Project

Flywheel came off without too much trouble. Everything on this motor looks clean. All the ignition parts test good, but the resistance was high across the points when closed, so that was likely why she wasn't sparking. Cleaned them up and set gap. Going to take a stab at setting the actual...

    New Tinny

Removed the rotted transom wood this week and fabbed up and finished the replacement wood. Nothing fancy. 1/2"cdx X2, stain, and polyurethane. Should last awhile, esp if kept out of the elements. This little guy didn't have any wood on the outside of transom, but I cut a piece of 3/8" just...

    Filling old drill holes?

I fill them with stove bolts. Can't stand that Swiss cheese look. If they're real small a pan head screw will work too.

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Just driving by and eyeballing the ramp parking lot, looks like traffic is about the same as last year. Our lake seems very busy on any nice weekend, but during the week not so much. Love those days when got the whole lake to myself. We do have a so-called dredging project going on with 2-3 ugly...

    What is this boat?

15 years? Heck I've been fixing up old vehicles for 50 years and still find myself tempted by stuff like this. You gotta do the math and none of us are going to live forever.

    Wax On Wax Off

I used to swear by Turtle Wax paste! Would spend an hour or more waxing my car. Then got a hold of a bottle of TW spray. Now it takes 20 mins. Honestly it seems to last just as long and so much easier to apply. So that's what I use on everything now. Once you find something that works you tend...

need some help with 93 tracker tx17 (buck rivets)

I just removed a bunch of these a couple days ago. The angle iron I could tell was going to scuff the boat up something awful so I gave that idea up. Drilled through the heads, which was a piece of cake, but they still were stuck good. Ended up using a chisel on them, so maybe drilling was not...

    What year?

Just depends on how it was stored really. I have some ancient motors that from 10' away look newish.

Transom replacement, curved to straight question

I have a boat with no cap on it. Doesn't seem to be a problem. Looks a bit unfinished though.

To PAINT or not to PAINT that is the question!

The better question may be HOW are you going to paint it? I can slap a coat on in a couple hours, but see other guys spending weeks on it. I have to say my Mirro with marine paint on it will scuff up real quick if it rubs against a rough pier. If it didn't come painted, don't think I'd do it...
