Ive tried going slower but the boat starts to drag in the water near 5000-4800 rpms. Your 60% 3,600rpm's target would be trolling speed and the nose would be pointing up at a 30 degree angle in my boat and not even be on a plane. I thought small outboards were made to run WOT all day?
The other...
I tried searching but found 1,200 pages of people arguing over suggested range vs optimal range. Yamaha says 5000-6000 rpm's for my motor.
When I go out with the dog and myself my RPM's are 5800-5900. Add the wife to the mix and I'm running 5500-5580 rpm's
I recently sand-bar'd my lower pitch...
Wow super amazing job you did. Way above my pay-grade. When I was re-powering my boat I agonized over Honda vs Yamaha. I ended up with the Yamaha because a semi-local shop had a 25hp electric start in stock. It was NOS (new old stock) and he gave me a $1,000 discount over his already $1,000...
Those look nice. Maybe 2 of them and wrapped? Any pics of how you wrapped motor? My yamaha has nothing to hold it on front and rear. I could feed it through the middle but that means it could tip anyway it wanted. Also its going to get grease on it.
Could be a dozen things........
Clogged carb.
Bad fuel pump or hard diaphragm.
Bad coil, electrical system that creates spark.
Clogged vent on tank
Leaking exhaust gasket pumping exhaust under cover
Next time it quits, bring a spare plug and pull one wire and ground plug to head and turn over...
Have a look at the nut on the shaft going down the back to the gear box. Maybe that nut is out of adjustment or loose. It could be all the way to one end of the center adjustment allowing forward and N but not R.
A couple snaps of the trim before I install it. Total cost was $130. There are some light tool marks on it I might have to sand out but I am good with how they turned out. He made them twice as thick at originals which were too thin.
I measured to old trim cap with a cloth tape measure holding to the surface for the whole measurement. I then had the shop make it 3 inches longer. I will trim off excess when done. It should be ok. Its not centered in the picture. I just set it up there for the photo.
Do they make an...
OK, made some progress today. Tried to insert transom yesterday and found that the old piece was bowed. The straight piece did NOT want to go into the already tight as heck gap between back of boat and knee braces. Soooo I improvised. I wedged one side in and then angled the other down and used...
He is right. Look at the direction marks printed on the impeller. Look at the bottom 3 vanes. They point the opposite of the top 3 vanes and the opposite of the direction markers printed on the surface.
