59 Cherokee 65 Evinrude 33hp Refurb.

Glad to hear she runs so well. For posterity (and to capture a baseline), I would rent from Autozone or other a compression gauge and check compression on both cylinders with the engine cold. Pull one spark plug and ground it's spark plug wires to the block. Thread gauge into one hole (use...

    Lonestar 14V Restoration

I got all the rib supports in and loaded her up with floatation. I want to put in an aluminum floor and the fabrication of it with all the angles and ribs is just beyond me and my patience. Anyone have a referral to an aluminum fab shop in DFW Texas area? Thanks. [/img]

I am making my template for the floor. Does anyone sell pre-coated aluminum panels like the new aluminum boats already have installed from the factory? Someone told me Basspro sold a jon boat flooring kit that sounded like this, but I cannot find it on their website.

Will's Starcraft Part 2: Freshwater to Saltwater!

Can you really stand on top of a 12 foot alum boat and walk around without flipping over? I'd consider re-decking it at the same height as your bass boat build but use .125 thick aluminum with some type of white anti-slip paint job on it. Perhaps you could have it prepped and sprayed with...

    dulling really shiny aluminum.

I sanded a couple of pcs with 100 grit paper in a palm sander. I like the finish...it definitely dulls it though it does add some texture to the look vs just a piece of dull aluminum that the shiny has become flat over time. I would say it made it look like a cast piece. I would suggest you...

Need your opinion- Is my bow trolling motor mount too thick?

Your idea of going to a larger piece of plywood to give more mounting space or shelf below sounds good, but if you just want to keep it simple I think rounding edges of your 2x10 and putting outdoor carpet on it that complements boat color would be a good look.

You think I am ok using SS screws to the ribs if I dip them in 3M 5200 sealant...or just go ahead with rivets? Since these are not below the waterline, can I just use std open ended rivets that I can get most anywhere? Closed end rivets are online order with min order qtys. I can do that, but...

Ericman - some really great input. You sound like you have been there/done that on how to fit the floor. I really appreciate your detailed reply. Sounds like I am going to need some more aluminum. I'd rather do it right once though, so I'm good with that.

1754 Complete rebuild (Steel plated Boat)

Disclaimer - I am not an expert nor do I recommend you use any references provided as sole means of determining safe flotation factor for your boat. That said, I recommend you google searching flotation calculators. I did so and came up with several hits that would appear to have reliable...

1754 Complete rebuild (Steel plated Boat)

Calculators out there to help with estimate. Just wondering if there is enough free space to fill with foam to help keep you afloat if you ever swamp the boat or get a leak that bilge is overcome with. If this boat is 2x heavier than same size aluminum hull...yea it would be tuff as nails and...

    Lonestar 14V Restoration

Resurrecting my project. I would like some input on my plans and tactics as I proceed. NOTE - all red lines are put in to show level lengthwise and side to side. Picture 1 shows the exterior of the boat with a red line front to back on gunnel and red line side to side across the boat. I...

    '68 Mirrocraft Rebuild

I have the same exact hull configuration. How did you figure out getting the floor level? Did you terminate the L brackets you riveted to the ribs at the same strake line from front to back or something else. Here is my bare hull. The bottom shape and v are exact same as your boat. If you...

    Lonestar 14V Restoration

I need some help with this floor. I have gotten the boat fully painted inside and out. Motor (1957 Evinrude Fastwin 18) is restored. I have benches made that are sealed and ready for carpet. Just need to decide on whether or not to put in a floor. I kind of don't want to for weight...

    Lonestar 14V Restoration

I want to put in a false floor. With the v-hull the angles for supporting get a little complex. Based on BillHowardOutdoors Starcraft project, I am thinking of doing the following. Rivet 1 inch square aluminum tubing to the ribs towards the outside of the floor and then cut a 2x6 that follows...

14 ft Starcraft for Fishing / Hunting / Bowfishing

Great idea. I am sure you figured this already, but you should probably measure the depth at each rib (since they are taller than the floor). If you measure each foot to the floor and cut your 2x6 to that height, then it will be too tall once it is raised by sitting on the ribs. Elementary...

14 ft Starcraft for Fishing / Hunting / Bowfishing

Nice. How is the plywood supported in the middle where there is a large space between the ribs and the bottom of the plywood? I am working on a v-hull and trying to figure how to make that work best/easiest to put in a plywood false floor.

    Lonestar 14V Restoration

Bare hull - as shown. A few holes to be repaired. Most of them can fill with rivets, but some are oversized. For the rivet size holes, what kind of rivet can I install easily? I have an air compressor, but not a rivet gun. Can I install something that I can use a manual rivet gun that is a...

Bare Hull - need some help with seating

I did a search on "bench" and came up with lots of topics on people that want to remove them. I have the opposite problem...I need some. I would like to put a deck up front with storage underneath, bench seat in the middle and aft with storage/livewell under lids. I think wood will be too...
