    Floor material preferred?

Plywood does not all use the same glue. Standard plywood for interior use will separate quickly if exposed to water. exterior and marine plywood use glues that are water resistant as well as veneers with wood species that are more resistant to water intrusion. And glassing the wood is...

    1984 Evinrude 25 HP neutral /starting problem

It may be in neutral but there is supposed to be a neutral safety switch that won't allow starting in gear. Possibly the switch is dirty, old , broken or just not adjusted properly

    Johnson 35 hp problems

There is probably a shorted wire somewhere or a loose ground. Follow all the wires and look for any chafed or exposed wires. Mine had this issue and i found an exposed bit of wire was touching ground

    New rebuild break in

Thanks for the in depth post. As an engineering student I am always trying to find out the how's and the whys and not just do something because a piece of paper written in 1978 said so. The manual I have for this engine tells me all about how to rebuild the motor but nothing about break in. I...

    New rebuild break in

I just rebuilt my 1978 evinrude 35hp new pistons rings circlips and wrist pins, gaskets and seals and carb rebuild motor starts nice but don't want to run it too long. What is the ideal way to break the motor in for long life and reliability

    Decking a boat

I will have to update my build thread on here but I am building my decks now with 1" square aluminum tubing I got from scrap bin at work. The frame is very strong and lightweight and I'm gonna screw some exterior ply on top. Plywood is about $23 per sheet I'm gonna need 3 maybe 4 sheets for my...

Treated wood on aluminum = bad?

I am currently in process of building my decks and I was planning on using 5/8 bcx ply. I will check for the mdo at Home Depot ( got gift cards for there) we have used it at work but the stuff they used was about $60-80 for a sheet of 3/4"

    Quick ? Before towing

I always tow my boat with the motor in running position is there a reason anyone should tilt it up other than road clearance?

Treated wood on aluminum = bad?

any exterior grade ply wood that is not pressure treated will hold up well. Pt plywood and lumber is not somehow magically waterproof it's treated to keep insects out

1970 Mirrocraft deck replacement. The foam under the deck?

Even if the water is contained in the foam inside the liner separate from the hull the water is still in your boat making it quite a bit heavier. I would gut out all the foam and just re pour new foam. After it sets it will have the same structural effect as the original soggy foam. As for...

Securing a pedestal base - Need help!

T nuts will definitely work. Another option is a 1/4-20 bolt and a big fender washer on the bottom to help spread the load over a larger area. Not as ideal as a big backing plate but every bit counts. And bolt it with nylock nuts if you go that route so they won't loosen with vibration

How to mount trolling motor on bow of 12' Jon

I took my transom mount trolling motor and reversed the handle to use on the bow and just clamp it over the bow with a block of wood. I have run my boat like this for a few years and It works fine

    Anyone tried this coating?

I just found this in Home Depot last week. I am probably going to use this for my front and rear decks in my mirrocraft. But no one here seems too fond of it. If it seals the wood, adds a slip resistant surface and can be tinted 60 different colors it sounds good to me

Rustoleum Oil Based through HPLV Spray Gun

I would not spray it without thinning On the can it says to thin it no more than 5-10% I believe. You can use mineral spirits or acetone. I have used the same paint and thinned with acetone with good results

Alumacraft V14 or 16 and Outboard to Match... My Dilemma

I'd go with the 16. For ventures into the salt it would be more comfortable. Plus the 16 is probably wider, more stable and holds more people and gear. My vote Is 16 footer with the biggest motor you can hang on her

1972 StarCraft Mariner Seafarer Transom height/problem

2"x2" x1/4" aluminum angle and a piece of 2x10 lumber can make a good setback/ jack plate a few members here have made some like this. I too have a short transom and a long shaft motor and I plan to make one
