    add a pad

I hope, in my spare time, it will take about 2 weeks. I have some fiberglass experience so I know what I'm getting into. More labor than anything. We shall see.

    add a pad

I flipped the boat over and started on the mod. I am using Styrofoam to form a pad 14" wide and 4" tall x 8' long down the center then 2" tall strakes next to the pad then taper down to the hull. I will fiberglass everything in. Pics will come soon.

    add a pad

Thanks muddywaders. I am committed to this project and I am going to modify the underside to try and lift it some. This boat as a whole is WAY lighter than the ski boat I removed it from. If I ever get to run 45-50 mph that doesn't mean I will drive wide open all the time! 8-[

    spring loaded trolling motor mount

I have made a couple of these bow mounts. They work well. Thought I would pass it on. I use a 2x4" steel tube the rest you can see.

    low top speed

The previous owner of the donor ski boat, which was a 17' fiberglass tri hull, said it ran 38mph. My boat is WAY lighter than the ski boat. This is why I expected more speed. Has anyone out there actually modified the hull of a flat bottom?

    add a pad

I will post pics once I get started. I believe bass boats run 60 plus and catch fish. I have a history of building things no one has seen before. Some work and some don't. Its my hobby. If a hull of fiberglass and foam doesnt work I will simply remove it. I would really be happy with 50 mph...

    add a pad

I have a 1648 flat bottom that I installed a 140 mercruiser and stern drive in. I have been disappointed with a top speed of 35mph. I plan on rebuilding the hull and installing a long pad. Starting narrow, about 8' from the rear and spreading out to 10-12" wide at the back with a strake on each...

    cheap seats

If you want a nice seat I use a patio chair. Purchased for $60, high back, armrests, rocker, netting seat dries fast. Swivel post dia. on mine is 7/8". I drilled out the 3/4" hole in the plastic bushing in the top of my seat post and slid it in. EASY No plastic base to fail. I will add drink...

    Offset pedestal?

I made my own unthreaded offset post. I designed it to touch the floor so it didn't move unless I wanted it to. Gives extra leg room on the front deck. Love it.

    jetjon vee bottom

I built this about 3 years ago. Sold it this spring and built up a 1648 with 140 hp mercruiser and stern drive. 750 Kawasaki with sand filter and reverse gate. Live well under seats. Electric front anchor. front storage area. Built in cooler.

    low top speed

Thanks fellas. How could I modify the hull for more speed? I could fabricate floats on each side of the lower unit. I've seen that on some boats that are heavy in the aft. What do you think?

    low top speed

after some searching it looks like the motor/drive weighs around 600 lbs.

    low top speed

I will look for a lower pitch prop thanks. I don't know what the weight is but you can see the waterline in the pics.

    low top speed

I don't know if anyone can help but here we go. I purchased an old ski boat. I removed the 140hp mercruiser and stern drive and mounted then in my 16-48 flat bottomed jon. My old jon was a 14-48 with 25hp outboard. It would run 24mph. This boat has 115 more hp and top speed is only 35mph. Both...
