    Motor question

How many hp does the new one have? What pitch of prop was on the old one and also on the new one? How much weight is in your boat?

    Finding bait shad

Hi everybody. So I've learned how to throw my little 3 foot cast net from a seated position. I need to know what to look for to find shad in my home water. I live in Arkansas and mainly fish in the tail waters of the lake, from where it starts to really widen into the lake down to where the...

My Mercury 90/65 is hard to start. Not sure what else to try

My two suggestions are simple but sometimes its all it is. The first is make sure your primer bulb is in a straight up and down position with the arrow pointing up. Most of them have gravity balls in them that will restrict fuel flow if in another position. Second is to check your fuel filter...

    Fuel/water filter and direct sunlight

Just cut a piece of board, plastic or what ever and hinge it to your back bench. Attach a small piece of wood to the inside of your transom for it to rest on...bingo, an inclosed bilge compartment.

Mercury 40hp died on the water

When you hit that wake did your primer bulb fall sideways? Reason I'm asking is a lot of the fuel primer bulbs have stop balls in them(Don't know what the real name is). It allows fuel to flow when the arrow on the side is pointing up but if the bulb falls on its side or pointing down the ball...

Johnson 3 cyl 35 hp - Runs for while then dies

I agree with hildebrandr990. That was the same thing that happened to mine. I think it was getting vapor locked. When I switched the tanks out it stopped.

Sea foam deep creep in 9.9

So was this your old motor or is it new to you? However you got it, your very lucky it fired up with little effort. Not using an outboard is by far the worst thing you can do to it(running it out of the water excluded of course).

    Frozen steering tube

Sorry to tell you this but your going to have to replace the cable. Usually what happens is the cable will fray inside the tube and get locked up. But maybe someone else here knows more about it.

New guy here with question about a 1964 Evinrude Lark VI 40

With some money and hard work you could make this into a beautiful water craft. I wouldn't start dropping money in that old engine though. Just because it fired up does not mean its a good engine. I've seen people drop as much money in an old engine as it would have cost to buy a much newer...

Johnson 3 cyl 35 hp - Runs for while then dies

I had a similar issue with my 9.9 merc. I had a 6 gallon fuel tank with a vent in the cap. I just dealt with it for a while. Then for a completely different reason I switched the tank. I wanted a smaller tank to save room and weight. I got an Attwoods 3 gallon ventless tank. I have not had an...

    Thought I'd seen it all!

Well you see I think it may have been my neighbors teenage son. If he took the tank there would be evidence. I asked his dad if he had seen anyone around my boat and he said no. My gas tank and motor is in the garage now. Fool me once...lol

1998ish Mercury 15HP Two Stroke HELP!

Before you order a carb check your fuel filter. Take it off and blow through it. If you cant blow through it easily replace it. Just saying because you don't want to spend a ton of money and it turns out to be a $20 filter.

Needing some expert advise/help before I spend some money.

Yes rich is right. Anything extra in the water creates drag. And the more drag the more demand on the motor. Just like your lawn mower. Grass drags on your mower, the taller the grass the more drag. And your mower drops rpms and bogs. Same concept in the water.

    2006 15hp merc 4stroke water intake question

The acp is right where it's supposed to be. If you haven't got it trimmed all the way down try that. Should be a 1,2,3 on the side. Check and see if its in the 1 position. If not put it in the 1 position. After you change the setting you have to tilt the engine all the way up then back down for...

Needing some expert advise/help before I spend some money.

A 15 pitch on a 20hp seems like a lot to me. I would back it down to a 10 or even a 9. Remember for every inch of pitch you lose about 200 rpm So if you backed it down to a 10 pitch you should gain 1000 rpms. In theory of course...
