    Restoration 1959 Aluma Craft FD

That's fair. That is what I wanted to do initially. And I may still do it as I just don't like the look. I was just working with what local shops had avalible for aluminum sheet.

    Restoration 1959 Aluma Craft FD

Got the steering mech installed. A little upset I chose to put the bracket on the front side of the console but it's okay. Made a reinforcement bracket for the back side so the mechanism doesn't move at all. Also added a couple coats of filler primer to the wheel and it's looking great. Also...

I would absolutely love to go with some coosa board. Still might if I can't find any white oak locally.

I think for the cost, strength and look I'm going to go with white oak. I've heard great things and don't want to laminate anything.

    Restoration 1959 Aluma Craft FD

Got my Steering mechanism in the mail. I was amazed the only thing needed to adapt the factory wheel was simply sand down the woodruff key and it slid right on. Paint is in the mail for the hull. What do yall reccomend for the transom? I really don't want to do wood as I have a vengeance against...

So I ended up getting a 2001 Johnson 30hp. I paid a premium of 1600$ for it with the controls, however it's in mint condition and the person I bought it from is a 4th generation Johnson technician. It has had everything gone through and rebuild as needed and runs amazing. A newer 4 stroke just...

The only reason I'm going with red scotch Brite pads is because I'm going to he painting the boat. Not restoring the aluminum. Otherwise I would be doing an sos pad. The hull is very corroded though.

    My new 1960-61? AlumaCraft FD

Well you will be happy to hear I just purchased (1 hour ago) the cleanest (probably) Johnson 2 stroke on Facebook. It's a 2001 30hp. I have been going back and fourth for a while now and decided a new 4 stroke just isn't right. This engine has been extremely well taken care of and has a ton of...

How many of you enjoy a decent stereo in a boat?

We installed 4 6x9s and 4 6.5s with a 3,000 watt amp on my buddy's scout and let's say it made for some great times on the sand bar. It was for sure worth it.

Got half the boat scotch-brited. Turns out it takes a lot of scrubbing and scotch-brite to get 3 decades of corrosion off an aluminum boat.

I've thought about it. I'm stuck between a nice old 35hp or a new 25hp 4 stroke. Just for reliability and fuel economy.

Got these in the mail today. Does anyone happen to know where that oval sticker was placed originally?

    Restoration 1959 Aluma Craft FD

I posted a few days ago and some seemed interested. So I figured I'd start a thread of my restoration. I'm hoping to have it on the water in around 5 or 6 months. Step one for me at this moment is remove all the rusty bolts people have installed over the years and replace woth either stainless...

How many of you have used a spool gun for aluminum?

As someone who has done both. You will also need a gas tank for welding aluminum spool or tig. That said I would 100% reccomend going tig over a mig spool gun. Spool guns are just too finicky. Mig allows so much more control.

Thanks for the heads up. Someone has replaced the wood at some point. Probably back in the 90s. They used long stainless hardware. But the wood is pretty rough now. I plan on using starboard as it gives a clean look. It's kinda pricey compared to just using a good solid wood, but it will last...
