Adding Outlet to Poly Fuel Tank?

    Touche. I hadn't thought of that #-o

Adding Outlet to Poly Fuel Tank?

Due to space constraints in my boat I am looking to ditch the portable tank setup and buy/make something that allows me to better arrange my fuel tank, batteries and oil tank. I had my heart set on making an aluminum or stainless tank (since I already have all the necessary materials on hand)...

    Motor need to be raised?

Just to add to the original post (I'm the slightly-heavier-than-200-pound brother that was along for the ride). The water was splashing up from the bottom of the hull and hitting the stringers running the length of the boat. This was throwing water out 8-10 feet from the boat, and about 5 feet...

    78 Merc Jet won't idle

I am experiencing a similar issue. Take a look in my thread titled "Engine only starts with throttle advanced" and see if any of the suggestions there will help. It was recently suggested to me that I should clean the idle circuits, as recommended to you by Blue Rude. Haven't done that yet -...

Engine only starts with throttle advanced

I've attached my carb diagram: I have already taken the idle screw out and sprayed carb cleaner in when I had the carbs apart. Strangely enough, both of them were at different settings (about 8 and 9.5 turns out - compared to the 2.5 turns recommended by the repair manual). I will try the...

Engine only starts with throttle advanced

kofkorn, I am trying to figure out where the idle circuits are located. My carbs have what I would call the main jet (that for whatever reason does not show up on any of the carb parts diagrams) that runs through the carb body and runs right through the throat of the carb by the butterfly...

Engine only starts with throttle advanced

I just rebuilt the carbs, so I am pretty sure they are clean (but as a last resort, I'll probably wind up taking them apart again). And I've tried several fuel sources, boat gas tank and right from a 5 gallon can, with no luck.

Engine only starts with throttle advanced

I recently rebuilt my carbs and replaced all my fuel line components. Now the engine will only start with the throttle advanced. As soon as I pull the throttle back to neutral to shift it into gear, it cuts out. Any ideas?

Engine won't start, oil dripping from prop exhaust

Thanks all, I will give that method a try. I also picked up carb rebuild kits. The dealer told me that my power pack might be part of my starting problem, along with the loss of power problem mentioned in my other thread.

Engine won't start, oil dripping from prop exhaust

Kofkorn - thank you for the replies in this post and my other thread. My typical startup method is to advance the throttle (in neutral) about 2/3 of the way, push the key in to choke it for about 4-5 seconds, then turn the key. I did not choke it every time I attempted to start it last night for...

Engine won't start, oil dripping from prop exhaust

As some of you may have seen in my other post "Motor Revs fine in neutral, bogs in gear" I've been having some motor problems. So in an attempt to fix my other problem, i went through some general maintenance and repair items. I've got good compression, good spark, cleaned the carburetor, but I...

Motor Revs fine in neutral, bogs in gear

Well I've got good compression, good spark, and the carbs looked clean. Checked the linkage and didn't see anything (obvious) out of place. Tomorrow I'll pick up new spark plugs and a primer bulb (since mine has some small surface tears - wondering if air could be entering my lines through a...

Motor Revs fine in neutral, bogs in gear

I recently swapped a 98 Evinrude 50hp motor onto my boat. Went through all the usual maintenance for a new-to-me motor - new fuel lines, cleaned the carbs, etc. I've had the boat out 3-4 times with no issues. This last weekend I was running at WOT, and hit a boat wake prety hard and the motor...

85 Tracker V17 Tournament, How Thick Are The OEM Decks?

If it's any help, I started a thread last week in this forum that might help you with porpoising issues. I have a Mod V hull (16 feet long) with a 50hp motor and I estimated I would need to add 250-300 pounds up front to stop the porpoising. In my case, it looks like the motor is too low. Runs...

Porpoising on re-powered boat. Need Advice

That was my thought as well, but I figured it couldn't hurt to raise it one at a time and see what happens.

Porpoising on re-powered boat. Need Advice

Also for what it is worth, I played around with weight distribution while on the water. I had to have 2 people sit on the front deck to get it to stop porpoising when I trimmed up (about 300 pounds). So I don't think that is a viable fix. I'm hoping that raising the motor a bolt hole will help...

Porpoising on re-powered boat. Need Advice

Yes. You are correct, the transom has very little angle to it. And it does appear that there is a pin there - I will have to investigate tonight.

Porpoising on re-powered boat. Need Advice

I took the boat out on the river today to look at that cavitation plate. It looked to me like it was sitting a little too low. I've attached a couple pictures so hopefully someone can give me an opinion. First one is the motor on the boat, second one is looking down on the cavitation plate while...

Porpoising on re-powered boat. Need Advice

I appreciate all of the advise and the variety of thoughts and opinions. It sounds like step #1 will be to get it on the river tonight and see where my cavitation plate sits in relation to the water surface while on plane. I have room to raise it, if need be. I'll also have a buddy sit up front...

Porpoising on re-powered boat. Need Advice

I will have to look at the position when trimmed. And I'd like to be able to move it, mainly because I think you can tweak top speed and efficiency by playing with the trim. Also, the fact that it is porpoising tells me that something is wrong, and I'd like to fix it. I'll take it back to the...
