    Trolling Motor Ain't Trolling

Alright... So I have been looking at some youtube video's and such since my initial post. I cleaned out the inside of the motor of all the crud. I wanted to make sure everything was working before I went ahead and ordered a new bearing and seals. I put it back together (No seals but it's not...

    Trolling Motor Ain't Trolling

I just dug out my old trolling motor (Minn Kota Endura 50lb). I bought it new in 2010 when I bought the boat. I used it one season then opted for a bow mount Power Drive and the Endura went into storage. I dug it out this afternoon to hook it up and run two electric motors on a electric only...

    14' Starcraft Seafarer Build

Rodknee, I was really never able to get on plane with two people in the boat. The lil 9.5 would push with all it had but the bow wasn't able to get out of the water. I would estimate it moved two people about 7 or 8 mph (I didn't have GPS speedometer at the time). I quickly upgraded to the...

Has anyone used cutting boards for bunk sliks?

Ernest, I haven't had any problems from screwing the cutting boards right to the bunks so I would think it would be ok. I don't remember the size I bought off hand. I want to say they are around 1/2" thick but they were the basic cutting boards that Wally World sold. I also bought two...

Has anyone used cutting boards for bunk sliks?

I have...and I like them. I put them on the beginning of the summer and they are holding up well. I counter-sunk the screws so they wouldn't scratch the hull and put them right over top of my old carpeted bunks. You still need to push the boat off but it slides much better than painted boat...

    SAFETY

It was explained to me during my boater safety class when towing your boat to cross the chains. This will allow the trailer to catch in the crossed chains if it ever jumped off of the hitch ball and allow you to pull over to the side of the road safely.

    Minn Kota PD40 Questions

N, I bought a PD V2 45lb thrust last spring. I am not sure how old your motor is, but I am sure they are very similar. 1) On mine, the foot pedal controls everything. The speed the motor runs to the direction the motor turns. 2) Other than plugging the motor in or hooking it up the the...

    Batteries for boat

Hey... I am going through something similar right now and looking into getting a new battery. I would say if you can afford two large deep cycle batteries, then go for it. Right now I have a 90 amp marine battery to run my trolling motor, nav lights, deck lights, and cd player. (I use a small...

    Sealing wood and installing carpet

+1 for the spar urethane or varnish. As for the adhesive for the carpet, I used outdoor carpet glue from Lowes for the long flat stretches and then stainless staples underneath. It has held up well for the last three years and is looking great.

    Boats & Radios/Stereos

Ehh... while I am fishing, like most of you guys I enjoy the quiet sound of the lake and talking with the fishing partner (one of my two brothers or friend). However, I do have a stereo on my boat for when I am picnicking with my girlfriend of fishing for pan fish I thought it was a good idea...

    14' Starcraft Seafarer Build

TC, Thanks... I am not sure what model number the seat base and pedestal are. I believe the Springfield company makes the combo kit I used and I bought the kit from Cabela's. I do know that the seat base and pedestal were meant to be used as a passenger or driver seat in any boat so I...

    14' Starcraft Seafarer Build

Hey bass, I used a piano style hinge that I picked up from the scrap/surplus yard where I bought my other materials. They were made from aluminum and pretty flexible. They were also very easy to put on.

    14' Starcraft Seafarer Build

Hey Bono, I am not sure where you are from, but when I bought my boat 3 years ago I paid $500 for the boat, cover, and trailer. The guy offered me a 20hp motor that he had laying around for an extra $1000 which would have put the package cost at $1500. I think this was a steal for $500...

Limited Edition 2013 TinBoats T-shirt interest?

Count me in for an XL.... Just an idea... How about "Got Tin?" on the front of the shirt, centered in the middle of the chest, in a medium sized print. On the back you can then have the main Tin Boats logo design with the 2013 centered underneath.

    Transom Saver

I would definitely look into replacing the transom. I would hate to see that new motor break off while trailering down the road or while your boat is in the water from a weakened transom. It looks as though the top board is pulling away from the smaller board that runs vertical up the back of...

    14' Starcraft Seafarer Build

Hey nlittle Thanks! As for the rattle cans, I want to say about four cans of self etch primer and then four of the rustoleum gray. From hindsight of my build, I would recommend using the rattle cans of self etch primer (easier to find the rattle cans at an auto store) but use the brush on...

    14' Starcraft Seafarer Build

Bass, I never really worked with aluminum either until this project. I took my time, researched on this site, and then went to work on the build. It was not as hard/difficult as I thought it would be, just time consuming to get everything right. I think aluminum is the way to go since its...

    14' Starcraft Seafarer Build

Bass, I didn't use easypoxy, the hull didn't leak enough to require a product that strong. However, if your hull does then I would recommend applying it to your build. Anyway, I used a product called Gluvit (one quart can). I sanded down the paint on the inside of the hull and then applied...

    14' Starcraft Seafarer Build

Hey Bass, Thanks...mine didn't start off too nice either lol. Baby poop green and faded from the sun over years of fishing up in Canada. I connected the metal frame to the ribs across the floor of the boat with rivets. I put on rivet at each end and they held really well. I then attached the...

    Where to mount fish finder

I'm not sure the make and model of your fish finder. I mounted my Humminbird 587 to a little console I made for the back bench seats last year. I wanted to see the finder when using the tiller because of trolling purposes and marking underwater structure. The base that came with the unit...
