Need Ideas.. Going from Bass Boat to Jon Boat

I'm still debating on what material to use on the floor. I really want to use aluminum, would love to have the boat ALL aluminum. I am going to put foam between the floor "Ribs" Framing. Do you think 16 gauge aluminum would be thick enough if I rivet it to the Ribs. The original was 20 gauge...

Need Ideas.. Going from Bass Boat to Jon Boat

I had at first thought about using it, but decided to go tiller steer. I bought a 18HP Evinrude that I will be using on the boat. Mostly river fish and wanted a motor that I could easily take off to fish the small lakes around me that only allow a trolling motor.

Update: Removed the floor and the waterlogged Styrofoam.. Bet the boat weighs 75 pounds lighter. I could not believe how waterlogged the foam was, like a sponge.

    First Boat - '86 Tracker TX-17 w/ leaking rivets

I'm going through the same thing rebuilding my jon boat, now. I gutted the entire interior of my boat, getting ready to take the aluminum floor off and replace the old waterlogged Styrofoam and replace with closed cell foam board from Lowe's. I drilled out all the rivets and bought a big rivet...

Need Ideas.. Going from Bass Boat to Jon Boat

Update: Got the boat all gutted and rotted transom removed. Now debating on what transom material to use and how to layout the inside. Was thinking about putting a small deck on the back, also thought about just leaving it all a open concept boat. Next step is to drill out the rivets on the...

He said he had a mechanic rebuild the carb, put in a new water pump and new fuel pump last year. He said he got it out this year and it won't start? He said he can spray carb. cleaner...

    First Boat - '86 Tracker TX-17 w/ leaking rivets

This video shows how to fix the leaking rivets. There are several ways people will tell you is the best... But this is the way I chose. This video isn't the product that I bought, but is how I am fixing mine. I have searched and Googled this subject for Hours. This way seems to make the most...

Are these the correct Rivets to seal my boat?

I am working on my Jon boat and am wanting to replace some of the leaking rivets and install new rivets on the ones I removed when I gutted the interior of the boat. I am looking at rivets on McMaster Carr and have found what I think is the correct rivets to use. The are called Sealing Blind...

    Mercury 200 - 20HP Question:

I am looking at buying a tiller steer for my 16' Jon boat and have come across a 1966 Mercury 200 20HP outboard. It's old, but seems to be well taken care off and hasn't been used in over 10 years. Are these decent old motors? Are Parts Available? Pro's and Con's of these motors ? What's a...
