    Yamaha C40~cranky at start-up

Sorry for the delay in response, I've lost the log-in password on my home computer. (?) I don't THINK it's losing prime, but I'll have a closer look next time. I don't really know what's causing it. My 10 minutes of checking all the connections and generally scratching my head seems to result...

    Yamaha C40~cranky at start-up

Hey guys, wondering if you might have any ideas on this one. I have a '99 C40 2 stroke that USED to run like a top. Got it winterized last fall, and it's first run this spring was a real stinker. Ran rich, stalled-out, smoked, etc. etc. Took it back to the mechanic who winterized it, he did...

    Yamaha 40hp 2-stroke and Ethanal...facts/fiction?

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated. There remains some debate about all of this, I'm reading this with great interest. I did order a bottle of the Yamaha "Ring Free" as I read some glowing reports about it. I will run some slightly higher octane fuel through it next time out, see if...

    Yamaha 40hp 2-stroke and Ethanal...facts/fiction?

He guys, haven't posted here in a while but have been lurking. Have a question for you all, hoping you can help; After running my '99 C40 for a couple of seasons, I've had my first problem with it. Here is the story; 1.run between April and October, 4-6 days a month on average 2.winterized...

    New guy with a Crestliner.

I'm a fairly new guy here, only with an OLD Crestliner! Your motor question~a 30 hp would be enough, maybe even a 25. A 40hp tiller on a 14' boat like that strikes me as being too much weight back there. Not saying the hull/transom couldn't take it, but you might get your rear end...

Small crack in hull~need your help guys!!!

Hey guys~thanks so much for all the input, and details offered via PM. I'll keep you updated as I begin the work next week and if I'm patient enough, photograph the process. I'm losing valuable fishing time with each passing day, so I'm anxious to implement some of the ideas you've all be...

Replacing Rivets in the hull~is there a tutorial here?

So, my question about the marine rivets was born out of my plan to take-on this repair myself. This is that thread; https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10369 Having talked to every marine service place within a 50 mile radius of home here, I think I've arrived at a plan...

Replacing Rivets in the hull~is there a tutorial here?

Looking around online, I can't find any info on doing this. I may try to take-on the repair job on my boat, but this is an obstacle I need to overcome. It would seem that the "pros" around here either don't want to touch it, or they want to retire with what they would make from the repair...

Small crack in hull~need your help guys!!!

Hey Quackrstackr~you're the second person to say something along those lines, but what exactly can you get for $1500 in your neck of the woods? Jon boats are of no use to me with the size of lakes I fish, and they practically give those away up here for that reason. So, if you're suggesting...

Small crack in hull~need your help guys!!!

I get the logic, but $1500 won't get me a boat, on a trailer up here that doesn't need work. There is a ton of money/time put into mine that I'm not sure I'm prepared to do again to possibly save a few bucks. I'd hate to put the $1500+ into an older boat like mine...believe me...but I'm not a...

Small crack in hull~need your help guys!!!

Hey guys, said I'd report back...so here we go. I just got back from a boat repair shop, the owner surveyed the situation and gave me a quote. Ughhh... So, he pointed-out a host of issues that probably contributed to the damage, and oilcanning that caused the crack. In no particular order...

Small crack in hull~need your help guys!!!

18"? Really? I've never heard that. I keep the motor trimmed-in (down/prop closest to the transom) for the "hole shot", lifting the boat out of the water then lift it once it hits plane. On calm water, near open throttle, I'd say a little more than half the bottom is in contact with the...

Small crack in hull~need your help guys!!!

Hey "Rat"~I'm the 3rd owner, but probably the 100th+ user. The boat belonged to a marina originally, used as a renter. All I know is that it was a tiller at the time, and probably not a 40hp either. The owner previous to me added a console, and ran a 40hp Johnson for a couple of years. I...

Small crack in hull~need your help guys!!!

Hey guys~thanks for the responses so far, keep them coming! Captain Ahab~as a DIY guy, I am SO reluctant to call in a pro until I've tried a few ideas myself, but called a local/reputable boat repair place this morning. (they do warranty repair on aluminum hulls) Anyhow, the chap I spoke with...

Small crack in hull~need your help guys!!!

Well, never thought I'd have to ask this question, but here I am...hat in hand. First off, the back story. When I first ran this boat almost 2 years ago, I noticed a slight buckling sound from the bow when I hit waves a little hard. Sounded as though the aluminum was being pushed...

    14ft Vhull

I think it looks pretty good! With high seats as they are, adding the weight of a deck (and I assume, a standing angler?) might make the boat a bit tippy. Also, the pilot's seat is centered (for balance?) when it should probably be low and offset to the starboard side. Just my two coppers...

People Fishing From the Boat Ramp.........

I don't know...I have more years fishing withOUT a boat than I do with one, so I sort of sympathize with people who are stuck on shore. That said, it IS a boat ramp or "take-out" point, so people who fish there should be prepared for some disruption. I have my own beef~the launch I use is...

    The boat~new photos

....thanks for the link and yes (sadly) I have seen that. In fact, I spoke with the owner earlier this week. To make matters worse, the boat is moored about 15 minutes from where I launch my boat, on the same lake. :( It is soundly out of my price range, though pretty fairly priced IMHO. A...
