I'm trying to track down some history on a Lone Star aluminum boat that has been in my family for generations. The story is the boat began it's life as a sail boat for the Air Force checking radar relays in northern Wisconsin after World War II (the original story was during World War II, but as Lone Star didn't exist then it must have been altered through word of mouth). My great-grandfather then purchased the boat through military surplus and it has been in my family ever since. From research, it looks like it would be a 14' Mariner model, probably early 1950's. There is no serial number on the boat, I recently removed the wood from the transom as it was rotten and carefully inspected the entire area. I have attached pictures of the boat and some of the writing that is barely legible on the sides, unfortunately my dad "camouflaged" the boat years ago with brown spray paint, which doesn't help the legibility. From what I can tell there is a "Property USA" then something illegible under it, "CAP 3 ADULTS", something that looks like "SPEC SERV SUPPLY", and "NO STANDING". Between the seats on the floor there are some clips, I was told this is where the sail would clip into.

My question is does anyone have any information that would help me to pinpoint what year this boat is or what it was actually used for during it's time as military use? It's been a great boat that is still in very active use today, and I would like to know if there is anything special in it's history.

for what it's worth, I have a few old Lone Stars and a couple of the factory brochures.
It appears to me that the Mariner was rated for 5hp up to 1955.
The 10hp rating began in 1956 and ran until 1958 and the Mariner then disappears from the line-up in 1959.
...so '56-58 is possible?

Also for what it's worth, I've found the serials on the 50s LS boats to be randomly placed but all have been upside down, on the inside, nearly hidden by the gunnel.
I have two that are stamped starboard side but behind the rear bench and one that is port side but nearly to the bow plate.
The serial formats -in general- have the year incorporated in them during the 50s.
They went to an 8 digit format in the 60s where year, model, and production number became part of the code.

Below is an example from my 1955 Corsair.

Thanks for the info, I'll give it another go at finding the serial number
