In my part of Florida, regular gas is around $3.35 a gallon. Just about $3 more than when I started driving!

What have you done to your Tin Boat today?

After 1 1/2 years of use after re-painting my 12” tinny, I decided to do all the touch-up painting needed. I have three different paints - bottom, topside, and non-skid floor paint. It wasn’t a lot to do, just tedious doing the few spots on all three painted areas. But once done, it felt very...

    Filling old drill holes?

When rehabbing my boat, I had a few extra holes in the transom. I took it to an aluminum welder who filled the holes and left a slight “mushroom” cap on each side. I ground them down, but left a slight raised amount on each side so that the welded plug wouldn’t just pop out. So far, after quite...

Is the motor height going to be an issue?

Love having an adjustable jack plate on my 12” StarCraft. Easy to make height adjustments to get it right, handles great, tremendous top speed, and leaves lots of room on the transom for my ladder and boat hook. I have a 9.9 Yamaha and use a short tiller extender for steering.

    1974 Starcraft V Hull Questions

I couldn’t agree more with Thill! I grew up on an island in the Gulf of Mexico during a time when wood boats were giving way to fiberglass boats… As islanders, we never thought about aluminum boats as a viable option on the waters where we lived… fast forward 40-50 years - today I live about 10...

What percentage of your boating is....

I live in Florida’s Nature Coast, the gulf coast region just above Tampa Bay. It’s an area with an abundance of springs, rivers, lakes, inshore gulf bays & inlets and easy direct offshore access. In a season I probably spend 40% in fresh and 60% salt. Sometimes all day in one or the other, but...

Need Lots of Help No idea where to start.

What kind of outboard do you plan to hang on the back? Use of a jack plate? Those are considerations when it comes to how far you plan to build it out… Also, I strongly suggest flotation foam in the rebuild… Good luck! We’ll look forward too updates!

    Painting aluminum boat bottom

In case it’s corrosion, I would use a power washer on it first, then etch and/or use a etching primer before applying your final coats.
