Gasket, 8.1-15-1, can I buy at auto parts?

As mentioned earlier not losing them is the toughest part lol. I keep mine in a baggie in my boats dry box where I store the extra prop nut and tools and registration. You could also tape or zip tie the bag somewhere under the cowling that way they are always with the motor.

Parts for 7.5/9.8/20 hp Mercury

Looks like a Sierra switchbox is only $150 new, I'd be going new at that point if used is $100 I would as well. Some listings take offers, so I may make some offers at 1/3 of the asking price. I've never paid more than $40 for a used ignition component and don't plan on starting now lol. Thanks for...

Parts for 7.5/9.8/20 hp Mercury

Looking quickly those types of parts are still available from places like marineengine.com etc...even if you don't want to be paying retail prices you can use their site to lookup the OEM part numbers and find them from a scrapper on eBay. Yeah, I need to keep digging. I looked on Ebay for the swit...

Parts for 7.5/9.8/20 hp Mercury

I picked up an old early 80's Mercury 9.8hp for cheap. It's in need of either a switchbox or ignition coil as it has no spark on the bottom plug and possibly other parts yet to be identified. If anyone has one of these motors they would be willing to sell parts off of please let me know. This old mo...

Tilt/Trim Relay Replacement

I'll have pics this weekend hopefully. I have a few places in mind to install it but I my rear hatch is not very organized and has a lot of stuff yet to be installed so I need to consider future placement of items. But back to original post and one of the things I like about it is that I can move it...

Tilt/Trim Relay Replacement

I got a used Panther Tilt/Trim unit with an outboard purchase recently. I have already posted some here about it. Anyways, since it is an aftermarket unit and the outboard did not have factory trim, the relays weren't under the cowl but had been installed in a 4"x4" electrical junction box. Also in ...

"mercosil" will be printed on the starboard cylinder if not chrome bore both very hard material and may not show damage even if piston is toast.Best to remove exhaust cover by partially disassembling lower cowl as well remove inspection covers on transfer ports to see if piston is scored.Parts in d...

I priced out a new prop shaft on my '95 Merc 25... almost $800. For a motor worth $700.

Twisted Prop Shaft

Usually on a mercury 25 (2 stroke) if the cylinder compression is that much difference from one to the other and the gauge is accurate and the hose is screwed tight to the head, the engine itself is likely to have issues. That could be a crank seal, piston, rings, a ton of things. I am hoping it's ...

Twisted Prop Shaft

Flywheel key for starters, the compression is concerning...I mean it will run like that but not like it should. Im with nccatfisher, the Aerosol sea foam is pretty oily stuff. I de-carb engines with it, but they are running, and will usually bog it down if you hit it too hard. Try pumping the bulb ...

For one I have never seen an engine fire on straight Sea Foam.
I'm fairly certain I have used it in place of carb cleaner in this situation in the past since Seafoam contains lubricants.....but I may be misremembering.

Twisted Prop Shaft

My wifes uncle recently bought a 2003 Mercury 25hp. It supposedly hit something with the prop and resulted in this twisted prop shaft. This isn't something Iv'e ever came across but told him I'd help him out. Seller already had it pulled so I was able to look at the drive and pinion gears and all lo...

25hp tiller tach

I have been wondering this as well. I've always used the Hardline inductive tachs, but for some reason my readings are erratic on this old Yamaha 30 I recently got. The motor has a wiring harness ran to a key switch in a junction box so I should have the wires needed to set up an analog tach. I just...

No I meant it's the same platform, same weight. May as well buy a 20 and put a 15 sticker on it. If your going to spend the money on a brand new motor, might as well get one that will push the new boat once the OP gets twofootitis. Lol.
