Re: Picked up a 1971 6hp Evinrude Fisherman

I installed new coils on my '69 Johnson 6 and did a carb kit. It ran perfectly and starts so easily. We just got home from a 3 day interior trip on the French river here in Ontario. Those old motors seem to run forever.

Re: 16' Naden resurrection.

I called a local decal guy and sent him pics off Google images of roughly what I wanted and that's what I got. If you have a good local shop, they should be able to match it up from these pics. The registration numbers are 3" high by 2 wide. And the Naden decal is the same except the N is capital ob...

Re: Anyone using Valspar Anti-Rust Armor paint?

I've never used it but being an oil based enamel, a hardener can be used. I bet if you searched that paint, a thread on the jalopy journal or hamb will come up.

You aren't over revving so that's good. Soaked foam can make a huge difference!

Re: 1954 Starcraft

Put as much effort into it as you feel like
If the paint that's there is adhered well and just faded, then sand it lightly and paint over. Research the roll and tip method using rustoleum. Enamel hardener works well with rustoleum.

Re: Is a 4hp a waste of time for me?

Some of the OMC engines were in "families" like the 9.9 and 15 share the same platform and the 9.9 can be upgraded. Same as the 20-35 used the same platform. Not all engines can be upgraded. I prefer to buy the HP I want and leave it stock.

Re: Is a 4hp a waste of time for me?

If the ignition is good and carb is good, they start so easily with the rope that you won't need electric start. That 9 1/2 is a great motor

Re: this rustoleum paint i found

Red boat is on its third year with rustoleum paint job. Add hardener. Spray or roll. Red boat sprayed, blue boat rolled. The color holds up and when it fades,, more rustoleum. Self etching primer on bare aluminum, very thin coat. Red oxide primer over top. Sand smooth. Topcoat with rustoleum and har...

Re: 30HP 2 stroke Johnson prop ?

I felt a 15 pitch wouldn't be ideal for my boat as I am never alone in it. Usually at least one big boy and often two plus gear. When loaded it runs as it should. Now if the coin were flipped and I fished alone often, it would wear a 15

Re: 30HP 2 stroke Johnson prop ?

It takes roughly twice the horsepower to go half again as fast so don't expect huge gains. I went from a 25 to a 35 (1983 so powerhead HP) and top speed with a 13 pitch prop is very close. What it does do is come out of the hole like jack the bear and will even get up on plane with 3 big boys and al...

Re: Old Boat

Looks like some good bones. I used a piece of 2x10 for my transom. That little bit of plywood isn't doing anything for strength back there.
