Re: Welding aluminum without a welder

I have soldered my whole life. Is there a need for flux or some agent to make it flow into then micro seams?

I can see how many accidentally turn heat into a cutting torch real quick!

Re: 2075 commercial grade jon boat,

Did you ever raise the console? Can't tell from pics. Looks like a great rig!

Re: Johnson 48 SPL Reverse "Lock"

Okay the lever is still there but the cable is gone. I'll inspect closer and see what I might be able to fabricate. Good to know it is not tied in to the shift rod.

Re: Johnson 48 SPL Reverse "Lock"

First thing to look for is to look for the tilt pin where the reverse locks hooks second place to look is the rod from reverse lever go's to latch. I'm also wondering is this trim and tilt or manual tilt manual tilt would be my first part off my answer if its trim and tilt you have a problem. Sam T...

Johnson 48 SPL Reverse "Lock"

1993 model Johnson 48 SPL. When trying to reverse off the trailer with throttle, the prop is coming out of the water as the motor tilts up. My old Mercury had a feature that locked the motor in reverse but would let it tilt up in forward gear in case you hit something. Does the Johnson have this fea...

Re: Livewell

Good points Todd. I would say the simple answer is No. But Todd is good to point out that a bigger live well doesn't guarantee anything. So many factors.

Re: Bass Boat Conversion

Your front deck is the more easily modified. You need 1) a dry shotgun storage box probably 5 ft along the port side. And 2)some floor space for decoys. Do you plan on hunting out of the boat and adding a blind?

Re: 20' tinny Bayboat

I see a ton more glass bay boats in Galveston but I think for some it depends how shallow you want to run. Waves and wind in the bay are so different so I think the comfort factor with glass is a deciding factor.

Love a good stick steer on a small boat. Did you fab the sponsons yourself? Those turned out great!

Re: 1989 Mercury Classic 50

Also questioning the statement you were "due for carbs". I don't hear this unless it has sat for long periods of time with old fuel. I would have tested fuel pump before dropping $600 plus. There could be two issues but need to eliminate easy ones.

Re: I'm gouging up the bottom of my boat.

Consider adding a keel guard. A good one is usually about $175. I would still file any rough spots down before applying one.

Re: Soft or hard cooler?

I love my 30 qt Rtic soft cooler. It is light enough to carry on your shoulder, keeps ice, doesn't sweat a drop and is waterproof. They go on sale for $80 periodically. My kids can sit on it without any issue(not and adult seat though).
