Crappie Gear

So I spent a couple hours looking around at our new Cabelas today. What a mad house. Its a very small store and they have everything in thier catalog in there. To do that they made the aisles very narrow. You cant stop to look at anything without getting ran over. Parking is also a nightmare unless...

New Techniques and Rod & Reel...please help

I am new to fly fishing and one of the things that helped far more than any books or videos was to fish with a guide for a day. I learned so much! I would find a guide that fly fishes for tarpon and spend a day watching and learning

Where to put Rod holder bases on 12'er

I have a 12' semi v, with wood benches. If I use rod holders, it is when I am catfishing. I fish down stream, off of the back of the boat. I had a hard time finding a place to put the rod holders because the type of base didn't work out well with the shape of the gunnel. What I ended up doing is cre...

Setups by lure type

Personally I think that technique specific rods are a marketing ploy. I am sure the guys on the pro bass circuit notice a difference, but I don't have the money or the time. My two main rods are: Batson Light XF tip with 20lb power pro braid: one is spinning and one is casting. I use these for small...

IM6 and IM8 rod blanks

My understanding is this: IM6 is more durable, but less sensitive than an IM8. My better rods are IM7, and I have quite a few IM6 also. I don't notice a huge difference. Although, you will probably get a lighter rod and more choices of actions if you go with a higher IM. I also use Power Pro Braided...

Installing a bilge pump?

I think my first project in the spring will be to add a bilge pump to my 12', but I have some questions. I usually am not out in the rain, and my boat doesn't have any significant leaks. So first of all I am not sure where it should be put. By the transom I figure, but in the center? left? right? Al...

bass pro trolling motors

I have a 50lb BPS Prowler transom mount on my 12'. I have had it for two seasons and haven't had any troubles with it. The mechanism that adjust the angle was hard to engage so I put some WD40 on it, and now it will drop down a notch when I am cruising up river. Not a big deal, I just set it up past...

I couldn't agree more. My boat gets filthy and carpet would be a nightmare. I use outside door mats instead.

What are you going to add to your boat next daddy?

I recently wired up nav. lights on my 12' semi v because I didn't like the clamp on battery lights I had been using. After completing the project my daughter asked "What are you going to add next Daddy?" I don't know... any ideas? Here is what I have added (sorry I don't have any recent pics). Fish ...

hurricane is coming, what to do?

I have never been through a hurricane, as I live in the midwest, but I have been through straight line wind storms. Last year we had one that had sustained 130mph winds for at least 30 minutes. Luckily, my boat was in the garage at the time. A neighbor had two boats on trailers, neither of which was...

I have one that operates on good ole man power. https://www.cabelas.com/bilge-pumps-hand-bilge-pump-1.shtml?WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=00048807&rid=40&mr:trackingCode=D55E84C8-958E-DF11-A0C8-002219318F67&mr:referralID=NA&mr:adType=pla&mr:filter=43601101631&mr:match={matchtype}...

Anchor selection

Jdkxtreme wrote:I have a silly question. I'm fairly new to boats. Why do you need extra rope? I usually let the anchor hit bottom then tied it off
If there is current or wind you won't stay there very long. As the boat rides up and down with the waves the anchor will go with it.
