This is my first boat restro, I found a 1976 lowe 16ft big jon that has not been in the water in awhile. Going to strip the paint and interior then replace transom wood and seating area. Should be fun!.

Welcome! Lots of good information and great people here! What do you have planned for your mod? Remember lots of pictues :LOL2:

Working on stripping the old paint off now, will have more pics as I go, really hot here in Tx so I can only work on it late or early hours. I will have lots of questions as I go, Thanks!!

Got alittle more done, the paint has 4 coats and is tough to get off. Been using stripease but not real happy with it. I am going to try another layer then sand blast it next. Was wondering about primer?.. need somthing to seal some pin holes and seems too?...my wife thinks I am nuts playing with the old stuff but I think it is fun!....

Nice boat! I cant wait to see more as I have just purchased a 1977 Lowe Line 1636 to restore as my first project which appears very similar to yours.

i know your pain sir being in texas AUSTIN to be exact it brutal i put over 100 hours working on my boat the first 2 weeks got almost everything major done now i work on her just on the weekends early in the morning and late at night

Welcome to the group. You should really have a nice boat when you get down with her. Be sure and keep us all updated with the progress, with pictures of course.

I will have the trailer painted Sunday and new lights put on. It got 100 here today so no work done, I just hope there is water in the lake when I get her ready!..Anybody got any hp suggestions?.. I am thinking 20 or 25. I got a enter console out of a alumaweld boat from a guy in burleson for a $100 bucks and It has steering wheel and cables read to go, Never had a jon boat so I don't know about hp. Great post here!.. hey send me pics of the 77 model.....

I dont think you can go wrong with either (20 or 25). The 9.8hp moves the 1632 around nicely, however if you have 1648* you might want the 25 to make sure she planes out once you start putting weight on her. I can tell you I am looking at moving up to 25 but we'll see what next year holds $$$.

I'll try to get my post started soon, as I have just started on my '77 project as well.

Well got the trailer done today, I used a truck bed paint that went on thick. It is for preventing rust and corrosion according to the cans. Note to self.... pull the trailer behind the truck BEFORE I BUY NEXT TIME!. I had to correct a 1 1/2" off set that was making the back of the boat race the front of my truck. Took me some time but I got it done, as usual it is hotter than hell here. But hey no snow!!!.. . I will get the lights on tomorrow, so far it has been what I thought as far as that goes. =D>

Been hot as hell here!....... Got the last bottom paint on today. I used paint from the bottom paint store for aluminum boats. Like to color, but don't think 1 qt is enough for a 16 ft boat [-X . I had to buy two cans but I like the result. Anyway will get it on the trailer and start on the next phase. I will finish paint in camo for the top. 8)
