Buddy and I picked up this 1987 jon and Motor for $650. Over the Winter we made a few modifications
with the help of this site. So I thought I should share the build, mostly in photos. Here she is when we picked her up.IMG_20171022_182205406.jpg
The trailer was scrap, so we bought a new one.Trailer.jpg

Now if our lakes would thaw!

nice work, very clean and fly fishing friendly! =D> I grew up fly fishing the flats in FL, now live in Colorado and just rebuilt a 14' tinboat last year I use for fly fishing. I have not pursued carp yet, but hear it is a blast on a fly. I hope to get after some carp and pike this year.

Thanks guys, mtntop, I'm in Colorado as well, Carbondale. Site fishing for Carp is tough, Almost as picky as permit,
and actually spookier. Where are you in the state?
Took the Carphunter out for the shakedown cruise last week. She ran well. Just needed a few tweeks.
Couple of pics.

Hey Carp, I see you are on the west slope, great area for outdoor sports. I live on the east slope in Evergreen. We have a few reservoirs over here which hold Carp and Pike. My plan is to head out this weekend. Boat has been in storage all winter. I have a 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10 weight fly rods. Thinking a 7 or 8 would be good for pike and carp. I have caught some pretty big reds, snook and small tarpon with them, they throw a good size fly in the wind.

I just bumped my build :). 1990 14' Lund Pike Rebel Special, it worked well last season, made a few minor changes but overall still the same layout.

I bet lots of folks out here ask about the poling platform? Has anyone asked ya why you put a wing on your boat yet? ;) I am thinking of adding a platform or at a minimum just a push pole for shallow water fishing. I don't want to mount a trolling motor on it, snags the line.

Mtntop, Poling platform is awesome so is trolling motor. So far no snags with Trolling Motor, but so far, little wind.
Eastern slope Carp get much larger than what I have seen in the west. Hooked an 18lb+ over by Ft. Morgan last
year, so far around here 10lb is large. If you want big Pike, Elevenmile, Spinney or Williams Fork. Landed an 18lb+
at Williams Fork on fly from shore a few years ago. Good luck. Show us a picture of your Tin!

Great conversion. Well done! You'll get some fun out of that one this year.

With regard to "trolling motor messing up your fly line"...it is said that none-other than Lefty Kreh said to "put a wet towel over the trolling motor".

That takes the tangles out of the setup.

Lefty is fishing the great ponds now as of about a week ago I believe, RIP Lefty.

Carphunter, love that rig! I have a 12 footer and opted for a rear platform on the rear bench as opposed to a platform over the motor. Where did you get your poling platform? I've seen pics of a similar style but not available online anywhere without a custom welder. Would love something similar to have more open space in the boat. thx in advance

I'm in Lyons and fish a few reservoirs nearby for ol rubber lips.
