Hello everyone newbie here. Just bought this 14ft Starcraft deep v and trailer for $350. I have a few questions about this boat to begin with. It doesn’t have the tag on it saying what the weight limit and hp rating is. The registeration doesn’t state which model the boat is. Also I couldn’t find a tag on the boat with the serial number. Boat is pretty solid but the caulking or whatever where the seems are is in pretty bad shape and the hull has a leak on the bottom of the bow. I did fill the boat with some water to check for leaks and the one on the bow was the only one. I do plan on taking it to the lake to just at least back it in the water with some weight in it to check for more leaks. Just to be sure. I’ll through up some pictures for you all and hopefully I can get some help with what to use to stop the leak. It’s not a terrible leak but a leak. My plans for it are putting a new transom on it, painting it inside and out and putting a full floor in it. I’m just not sure if it originally had a floor or benches. I don’t want benches but I was just curious. All wood in the bot will be marine plywood and cedar framing. Sorry for all the questions but this is my first time doing this.

Dear Pak713:

Not sure where you are located, but many states require a title in order to register a boat.

The missing BIA plate, or other identifiers, tell me the boat MIGHT be stolen.

Under the circumstances, I'd focus on registering the boat before lifting a finger to fix it up.

My other boat doesn’t have a title either. Just registration like this one has. I already have this boat registered. Got it registered today. Not sure where you live but here in Michigan when you sell a boat, the seller and the buyer both fill out the required parts on the back of the registration just like a tilte. Registration for this boat matched the mc number as well as the registration tag the seller gave me.

That looks like it used to be a runabout of some kind. It has had the bow cover, dash and windshield removed.
The angled piece on the side was where the motor controls were and the 4 flat pieces are where the benches were mounted.

Makes sense. I didn’t even think about that bracket on the side being for the controls. Also makes sense that there was a windshield. There’s a lip where the windshield would have sat. The boat looks like it hasn’t seen water in awhile. All the caulking where the seems are is all cracked up. I plan on using gluvit on the whole boat. I would like to know it’s rated for though. She’s going to be a project that’s for sure. It’s going to take some time. I have a picture of the where the emblem used to be. Looks like it had the older Starcraft emblem on it.

I figured it was from the 70’s. I’ll have to reach out to Starcraft. I appreciate your reply. I have another question too. I figured my original post might have been too much info and pictures and doesn’t help with the pictures being sideways. That was my fault. Where the bow is riveted together is where the leak is. In the bottom of the hull. Forgive me for not knowing the correct term. The rivets seem solid though. But the caulk that I’ve been mentioning is missing and peeling up in spots on every seam in the boat but is only leaking in the bow that I know of. I’ll post some pictures. Anyway should those seams be re sealed on the outside with something like 3m 5200? I’ve heard gluvit works best on the inside. Could the caulking or whatever it’s called be causing the leak? My other 14ft sea nymph isn’t caulked at all at the bow in the piece I’m talking about and it doesn’t leak at all. Thanks everyone.

I noticed that a bunch of the seam sealant appeared to be peeling off of my old Lund hull (70's), but I was pleasantly surprised that none of the spots leaked. Boat projects are enough work as it is, I'd say check for more leaks before you going sealing every seam.

Looks like you have a great hull to build from though. Lots of possibility for this one.

Gulvit all the seams and rivets on the inside. If needed after that you could 5200 where needed.
