My 1960 Alumacraft FD had a worn out 32lb trolling motor.
I recently bought a 46lb Motorguide saltwater motor on Craigslist.
I quickly realized that the simple board sandwiched with the motor's clamp was not going to provide the strength and stability needed for the 46lb thrust motor.
I built a mount using some mahogany that was salvaged from a 1958 Lyman boat, also used some aluminum scraps I had laying around, 1/4 in plate and 3/4 in square tube.
I used a table saw to cut the wood to desired shape.
1/4 in aluminum plate is at top for support where the motor clamps apply pressure.
3/4 square tube gives the bottom support, attached at top of boat splash rail.
The mount and motor is attached using stainless security head screws.
