Exactly what paint do you recommend for the exterior of an aluminum jon boat? It is currently tan, I want to paint it bright red or royal blue glossy. Where can I buy it? Where can I buy self etching primer. I will be rolling it on and finishing it with a soft brush to smooth out roller marks.
Thanks,
Bassky

look for Pettit EasyPoxy - they have both colors you are looking for.

For the glossy blue - use Electric Blue... that's what I did on my other boat
They have the red too, but I forgot the name.
As for the self-etching primer - I used zinc chromate... it was yellow. I got it at Boaters World too

here's a list of colors on the web https://www.discountmarinesupplies....TTIT_EASYPOXY_POLYURETHANE_TOPSIDE_PAINT.html - might not be the cheapest place to look, but keep searching and you can find it at a decent price. I got mine at Boaters World locally before they closed their doors.

if you cant find any of that stuff try a tractor supply co or other farm supply store... i bought a gallon of ford blue (royal blue) and a can of hardener (makes it super glossy and durable) and painted the exterior of my boat with it. i did 2 coats over self etching primer and really like the look of it. i used 4 inch foam rollers (at walmart) and still have about half a gallon left!

Check out my build I have info listed there as to the paint process. see page 3 of the build https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10823
