Howdy folks,

I have a minn kota 40 all terrain trolling motor I'm installing on my jon boat and I'm not sure how important it is for it to be perfectly level. The back of the TM needs to be raised about 1/2" to make the shaft level vertically. How important is this for the functionality of the TM? Thanks in advance for any help given.

I think it will be fine like it is, but take it out and test it. Heck it may sit perfectly level once its in the water.

You're actually worried about how plumb the shaft needs to be when the TM is deployed.

The answer is... don't worry about it. Worrying about plumb or level on a boat is futile, boats don't set level in the water and nothing is plumb.

As long as you're installing the TM on a bow deck the shaft will be at a right angle with that deck when it's deployed and that's all you really need.
