Next year I plan on adding a bimini top from this company.

Bimini tops are great, but can be a little pricey, but here's a link to a DIY version.

You can also do sort of a "swamp style" bimini using some fabric/tarp and a few support poles like these.

I actually use a large beach umbrella in a modified rod holder (aka piece of PVC) in my little 14' tinny and it works great. You can even store the umbrella when not in use. They even sell fancy aftermarket umbrella holders that mount directly to your seats too.

I just got a Carver for my boat about a month ago. I can't believe I waited this long to get a bimini. Great choice of what company to use. I special ordered one of the very cheapest Attwoods from bass pro and returned it because it was such a piece of junk. The Carver wasn't much more money, came fully assembled of nice materials and it included the boot.

Not a John but you have to have a top out here in Arizona......

Mine is Carver as well, the top is Sunbrella material. You don't want to be in the swamps of S Louisiana during the summer without one.

bryanleavens » Yesterday, 20:45[/url]"]Nice if you don't mind can I ask approximate price ?

I think they start around 200-250 bucks, mine was around 350. they can be configured quite a bit size and material wise. You can also get plastic instead of Stainless mounts, that can be a 75+ dollar difference as well.

I can and do leave my top up at full throttle 30-35 depending on load.

I picked up a cheapy bimini off ebay, may not last quite as long as some of the heavier duty ones out there, but at the same time it was only $110 bucks, its sturdy enough to run up at wot, and it does the job.

I went the DIY route recently and it worked out better than I thought it would and pretty cheap. I picked up a barely used 9' collapsing patio umbrella w the hand crank from a guy tossing it out at the co. trash depo where I take our garbage 5 months ago. I already had some 1.5" pvc pipe and some T fittings and bought 2 more for $5.00?. I made a rectangular bracket w 4 Ts and 4 pieces of pipe I=I that fits on my narrow alum. seat pedistals and just wide enough to clear the rotating seatback and about flush w the bottom of the seat when it's in the pedistal. I cut about a foot off the bottom section of the 2 piece steel umbrella tube to make the struts on the umbrella a few inches above my head when I stand and covered the end of the pipe w rubber tape where it touches the boat when inserted into the PVC frame. I took it out the otherday and It worked fine to shade me from the miday sun and I can cast easily while seated or standing, I just can't cast over my shoulder while seated or standing near the center of the thing. I can also swivel it around left/right or infront to keep the sun off depending on the direction of the sun and my drift/troll w the wind. I thought the wind might play havoc w it but it did better than I thought the woven fabic is lightweight and not completely solid. It takes about a minute to deploy or stow when I take off to another fishing location and when collapsed it doesn't take up a lot of space. I would post pics I have but my cameras card is goofing up and can't be formated for some reason.

My home away from home.

This might be a dumb question but, one of the lakes I fish regularly is constantly windy, how do you guys with biminis or umbrellas fair with strong gusts?

No problems so far as I cook in my tin, so the side curtains serve as windbreakers so my stove doesn't get extinguished. When they act as sunscreens, I can see out but you can't see in. Of course, at night they keep the gnats and skeeters out.

I wouldn't expect my home made contraption to hold up to strong winds. I stow it before I crank the big motor. If it's really windy/gusty I'd rather not be on the lake anyway.

gusty winds ?????

well, if you are drift fishing,
hahahahhahaa you just say real LOUD .... OHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOO
the ANCHOR the ANCHOR, somebody get the ANCHOR !!!

but if you are underway, you do not use the side curtains - they act as a sail. a BIG sail.
the bimini top is (or should be) slanted downward a little in the front to keep your boat pushed DOWN
onto the water. If the top is tilted up, it will act as an air foil scoop and turn your a$$ OVER. (if your boat can go that fast)
never trailer your boat with the top in the upright and deployed position. (but, that is YOUR choice to do so)

THAT is what you do

I was more concerned about the top itself ripping off, but I never thought of that haha. Makes sense though, thanks man.

Never had a problem trailering with the top up even at 70mph. Designed it to have no frontal wind resistance as well as having mounting snaps every 6". The side curtains work pretty well as sails when drifting.
