FWIW on my glass boats I'd always use a tackle locker made of King Starboard, so it could withstand the rigors and pounding that offshore hulls are subject to. On my tin boat, I want to make a similar 4-drawer tackle locker, but I didn't need it to be built like a tank.

I found this Plano tackle locker complete with four 3600 series plastic tray boxers for only $16. I have plenty of aluminum left over from my recent transom project that I'll make a frame and locking door out of.

I plan to mount it under the raised bow deck, so that I can access it from the cockpit area.

Many years ago, Plano offered something similar, but with a handle built into the top. On my present 1648 Lowe tinny, and on a previous boat, I built the Plano "case" in, under my console.

This installation was finished a few weeks ago..... richg99

that rod rack rear plate gave me a solution to a problem I just ran into after I moved my trolling motor to the starboard side of the bow...thank you sir!

Glad I could help. I just included that shot because it shows how everything fit together.

The one in the picture was made out of thin plywood. I replaced that a week or so ago with one made out of white WalMart cutting board. ($1.88 )...

I must still glue the left edge down so that I don't snap the top inch off (where it is screwed down).

I need to do something like that only in a straight line so that my rods can mount further back underneath the side console.

re Rod Rack add-on. Have at it!

My patent won't be valid for 24 hours. Ha Ha

Simple enough. One hint...make sure that your largest rod handle and or fishing-net handle will fit before choosing the size of the holes. Don't ask me how I know that.
