As the photos show, This custom Triton trailer , per the companies marketing, made for a Bay Boat, is rusting!? It looks like to be responsible and safe, it is time to fix or replace the uprights that hold my trailers bunks. As these are welded in place, what options do I have? Do I need to cut off the old ones and bolt on new? Or is there a process to recondition the existing mounts? A few years ago, these were showing bad rust, so I sanded primed and regalvanized. Not sure if that helped or hurt? Either way, I poked one of these rusty uprights last week, and about half the thickness of the metal fell off! Not good. Thanks for your thoughts. Tomm

You can either replace them and have new ones welded on if you don't have that capability or you can buy them and bolt them on using through bolts and either SS or galvanized fasteners.

I think I'm saying pretty much the same thing as NCCatfisher. If welding is an issue, you can cut those off and put new brackets on using u-bolts. New bolt-on brackets will probably be less than $15 each.

The only option I see is cutting off the old ones and bolting on new ones. Use a good galvanic paint to pain over the cuts and clean off the rust either sand blast or use some kind of rust remover. you can order the parts on line usually. just google trailer tarts. I bet the bunks are pressure treated too.

Thanks,
Next question. When to use Trailer Double U Bolt Bunk Brackets?

If those are the only bunks holding the boat I would go with the double but, if it is a lightweight boat the singles will probably work fine. Don't know squat about the boat.
