My son and I are going to rewire our little 1448 jon boat and I'm a little confused as to what we need to get started. I think we need a small fuse/breaker panel with switches and maybe a distribution block. Some things may be on a fuse or breaker but no switch. I really am not sure what a small jon boat like this needs. There is not that much going on. Just running lights, fish finder, bilge pump, on board charger, .... What am I missing and what do you think I need to get ordered? I also read about the panels from bass pro have very bad ratings (fail quickly). Any suggestions about which specific panels to use and where to buy?

Lots of different solutions within many of the builds on here. If you haven't gone through many of them, I would suggest doing so. I went the route of just ordering switches and had a member here make a plate to mount them on. Try running a search for "electrical panel" and see if you get some inspiration.

Good luck on the project with your son.

The fused switch panels are from the same manufacturers no matter which supplier you buy from. There are many different models to choose from too. Rocker switches, toggle switches or the old fashion push/pull switches.

For simplicity you could start with a simple fuse block like this, and then add simple switches. https://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Blue-Sea-Common-Sourced-ST-Blade-Fuse-Block-6-Circuits-w/Cover-Negative-Bus&i=71230 .

I use this type for my running lights as they are reliable and easy to wire.

Then simple 2 position toggles for the bilge and live-well pumps.

I just run a 10 gauge wire for the pos. and neg. sides of the fuse panel and 14 gauge wire for circuits. Also use a 30amp circuit breaker on the battery positive to the fuse panel.

It's not fancy but it sure does work and simple to work with. Here is a good source with a wide examples of what is available.
