    Help identifying a boat

If the title reads “Maid”, and the data plate reads “Texas Maid”, why do you believe it is not a Maid, or Texas Maid. It sounds like a little play on words. Texas Boat Manufacturing Company INC, manufactured a boat in Texas, the boat was made in Texas, hence the Texas Maid. I like the lines and...

Western W-17 Rebuild advice needed and build thread

Nice boat you have there, built for salt water or big water. I like the idea of pouring the foam in the sides and keeping it out of the lower water prone areas. As far as the splash well goes, you want to have a low spot where water will drain out, if you back-down into a wave accidentally. The...

Anyone ever do a DIY tunnel in a tin boat?

I would use the same thickness sheet for the tunnel as the hull skin.

    Ranger II Restoration with TeeNee

Nice classic boat there… Ranger III. You remind me of me…lol. Everything gets “Hot Rodded”. I like the idea of swapping the engine cowl to retain the classic look.

    Rivet tools

Good question. In the item description it says “This air rivet bits suitable for hollow, solid, and half-hollow rivet”. The two rivet sets on the right are for universal head solid rivets. The four on the left must be for “hollow & half hollow”

    1957 Crestliner Viking 710 Conversion

You remind me of me…lol Reminds me of the time I took my little lake boat out in the Puget Sound chasing a halibut hot spot. All was good until the WX went south and we had to run back to the boat ramp as the seas & wind tried to sink us.

How many of you enjoy a decent stereo in a boat?

This is an interesting topic, ever since I picked up a used console for the steering parts. It had a head unit in it, and that got me thinking about a sound system for my boat. If I had music in my boat, I’m sure a little Lynyrd Skynyrd would be played…taking me back to the seventies when I...

How many of you enjoy a "Beater Boat?"

I’ve had a 1648 for almost 20 years now. It gets pressure washed occasionally, otherwise it’s a maintenance free boat. I use it for fishing & crabbing mostly. WhenI bought it, it had a couple seats bolted on, but I took them off. I’d rather sit on a boat cushion (throwable life preserver), it...

    Duranautic 13’ Coastie

My fist thought on painting an aluminum boat, is no don’t paint it if it’s bare aluminum, and has never been painted before. Once an aluminum boat has been painted, it is too work intensive to strip it back to bare aluminum again. Having said that, once an aluminum boat has been painted, it will...

This thing is a can of worms

Try a left hand drill bit. Sometimes it will catch and run the broken bolt out…like hitting pay dirt.

    1992 Polar Kraft MVT-1751 with a 1992 Evinrude 60 HP…my first tin boat project

Aye Capt’n … Steady as she goes I’m sure Thill has read this thread, because he has commented along the way. After studying the pic I posted more, I believe I can simply raise the assembly until the roller sits under the eye fitting. That will raise the winch making a straighter pull. It’s...

    1992 Polar Kraft MVT-1751 with a 1992 Evinrude 60 HP…my first tin boat project

I flipped the boat over and put it on the trailer. I mounted the winch post, for the hand winch. The whole setup looks out of whack. I’m thinking about moving the hand winch, over to the back side of the vertical post, this will raise the winch, allowing more of a straight pull, as the boat hits...

    1992 Polar Kraft MVT-1751 with a 1992 Evinrude 60 HP…my first tin boat project

I lowered the front of the bunks on the trailer today. I left the rear brackets at the height I had them. I cut a couple inches off the front brackets. I loosened the middle brackets and readjusted the middle brackets. It still has a tilt but the boat should sit on the trailer closer to being...

1958 Crestliner project for someone near Boise

It looks like you could install remote steering and set it up with a couple seats like a runabout. If I ever found one in restorable condition I would snatch it up in a heartbeat.
