    Security cameras

I am a retired school administrator from a large district and my duties included district security. I have bought hundreds of security cameras for several situations and would offer this general advice for the original poster: 1. This is not a hard and fast rule, but a general rule that has...

    Lithium Battery Question - 50AH LiFeP04 for a 55# thrust Minn Kota?

For those that might have wondered about the useful discharge capacities and discharge efficiencies of Li ion vs Pb acid batteries, this chart from RELiON batteries might prove useful: Comparing Lithium Iron Phosphate with Lead Acid Batteries | RELiON My main concern about Li ion batteries...

    Spinning Reel Maintenance

I have some older Penn Spinfishers and have good luck with them. Though most of their manufacturing has moved to China, parts are still available and not too difficult to find. For lighter reels, I have used Pflueger Presidents and I like them too, though I am weeding them out as they break...

    What trolling motor upgrade

You did luck out. Congratulations. I got lucky when I bought my current motor six years ago, a 80 pound thrust MotorGuide saltwater version. Gander Mountain was going out of business and sold their trolling motors cheap. I have had good luck out of Minn Kota and MotorGuide and wouldn't...

    What trolling motor upgrade

Anyone needing a trolling motor might do well to at least look at trollingmotors.net They pay to ship a motor to you and, unless you are from Texas, it is tax free. Free shipping and no taxes sure ease the burden of buying a new motor. The website is pretty educational too.

    What trolling motor upgrade

Hello Still Afloat, Yes, it's hard to believe, but a Garmin Force starts at about $3600, a Lowrance Ghost starts at about the same price as the Garmin, and the newly announced Power Pole Move starts at approximately $5000. Those motors make a Minn Kota or MotorGuide seem cheap. It's pretty crazy.

    What trolling motor upgrade

Most of my friends use Minn Kota Terrova motors and they like them. I have used Minn Kota in the past, but I currently use a MotorGuide Xi5 and I've had great luck with its spot lock. I have owned my current motor for six years. I cannot speak intelligently about lithium batteries; I use AGM...

Braided vs monofilament/ Sorry I originally posted this in the wrong place

I use braid with a monofilament leader for everything. I usually attach the mono leader to the braid with a double uni knot, though I sometimes use a FG knot. Braid is strong and sensitive. I can also cast farther with braid. The disadvantage to braid is that it abraids easily on rocks, or...

    Life jackets/PFD

For what it's worth, West Marine currently has their house brand auto/manual inflatables on sale. Their inland vest, at $69, is lightweight and adequate for any situation that anyone might be in while fishing. I have seen them cheaper, but $30 off their usual $99 isn't too bad a price for anyone...

    Life jackets/PFD

I, too, would not worry about the reliability of auto-inflatable life jackets. There are two types of mechanisms for auto-inflatables; one uses a dissolvable "pill" that will dissolve in a fraction of a second when it gets wet, allowing the CO2 cartrige to be punctured and inflating the jacket...

What size Mod-V Jon boat for a 25HP outboard?

I'm curious RKING453, Have you found a boat to use with your 25 HP Mariner?

How to Repair Side Console Plastic Windshield

If you decide to replace the windshield instead of repair it, there are several places that do that work for reasonable prices. Custom Mold & Tint in Arkansas comes to mind. I looked at their website again before I typed this and they publish that most of their windshields are between $120 and...

    Plywood for flooring

If it were my boat and I wanted to keep it for several years, I would order 1/2" marine grade plywood which can probably be ordered from Home Depot or your local lumberyard. If I only planned on keeping it a few years, I would just use exterior plywood. Marine plywood's layers (plies) are glued...
