    Cable/pulley steering vs rotary ?

There is no comparison between the old cable systems and push/pull systems. No brainer - go with the push/pull. Depending on steering shaft / steering wheel configurations, you may hafta do some adapting to use your old wheel, but anything is do-able with imagination and determination.

What size Mod-V Jon boat for a 25HP outboard?

I had a similar thing with a 2003 Johnson 25 hp 2 stroke on my 1663 Starcraft Seafarer. Do yourself a huge favor and buy a Tiny Tach - spend the extra few bucks for one and forget the cheap Chinese knockoffs. They don't work well. The Tiny Tach is rock solid. IIRC, (boat is sold and gone...

fuel line keep falling off my 2000 25hp Evinrude

I bought an older 12 ft Mirrocraft with 15 hp Johnson last year and got a good price, since it'd been badly neglected and had multiple problems. Some of them recurred and gave me fits. Biggest thing was water in the gas - several times - and the carb doesn't have a drain plug, so it was remove...

    Rear mount stick steer?

Your concern about thieves is very well taken. For my 15 hp on the 12 ft and the 25 hp on the 16 ft, I scrounged around a metal recycle yard until I found a length of square steel tubing that would fit over the clamps. I used a cutoff wheel in an angle grinder to cut a slot in it that would...

    Leak Emergency

I understand your concern, but just watch on your own boat when you're out and it'll be very clear what will work and what won't. If your boat is full of water, it's very likely you "can't" get on plane because of all the weight of that water and at that point you'll be very happy to know...

    Leak Emergency

It doesn't need to be on plane. Even at low speeds, the water behind the boat will be sliding clear of the transom. All you need is for the transom plug to be exposed.

Trolling motor bracket for mounting transom mounted tm on bow

If you have a metal recycle yard nearby, it can be a treasure trove. You can buy angle at Ace Hardware and likely Lowes and Home Depot, but it's very spendy. Local recycle yard charges me $2/lb for steel; $3 for aluminum....and they've got 10 acres of scrap. Fun digging thru it, looking for...

What size Mod-V Jon boat for a 25HP outboard?

Agree. My 1663 Starcraft Seafarer is 285# bare hull and I figure that with me, gas, full gear and on the water is about 650#. My old 25 hp Johnson 2 smoke drives it to 28 mph flat out. Cruises nice at 22 mph. That boat and my 12 ft Mirrocraft with 15 hp Johnson are for sale. I'll be posting...

    Fishing Tackle for Sale

I have a whole list of stuff here. Some new, some in storage for quite a few years, all in good to new condition. Rods: Eagle Claw Trailmaster 4 pc. - M4TMLL spin/fly Cabelas Euro Match Rod - 12'6" - dandy toy to play with. It would be a great surf rod for 4 - 10# line. Shimano Speedmaster...

    Saltwater boat in Florida

I moved from SW New Mexico to the Nature Coast of Florida (Inverness area) 18 months ago and it hasn't been as expected at all. I'm homesick for the high desert, the deep blue sky, the mountains and canyons and miles of open vistas where I rarely see anyone....and the moderate climate. My area...

    1973 Lowe 1648 Jon Flooring/Transom Questions

Not familiar enuf with mud motors to help there, (seems like 23 hp should be plenty, tho') but I do have one thing I'm a bug on: Keep It Light ! ! ! I think I've said before here that years ago I had a 16 ft Ouachita tin boat and it was a great little boat. Went like hell with an 18 Evinrude...

    1448 boat project question

I'm just 30 miles south of you in Floral City and had thought along similar lines when I moved here. I'm on the Withlacoochee River a lot, so am some biased in that area. I'd also thought about going out of Yankeetown some and fishing the rock flats out there. Jet sounded ideal. I'd had in...

Problems with rivet ans sealant prop

It's very difficult to seal a rivet - or any other leak - from the inside. Water pressure from outside tends to lift the patch away from the surface. Far better is to prep the outside of the hull and seal it there. Smooth the stuff you're using for less drag - I'm not familiar with Gluvit...

Restoring transom of aluminum skiff Valco Bayrunner BR-15

Looks like those side boxes are welded solid to the bottom of the hull....?? Strange they would do that....?? That could make an awful job of it. If mine, I think my 1st step would be to get that plywood and other stuff out of the way, then take it to a welding shop and have them look at it...

    gunnel cracks

Man, but I hate crawling under a dripping boat to set up the transom saver. A few threads ago, I mentioned my ratchet strap arrangement: This is my setup. Tilt the motor, run the strap around the back of it, hook each end into an oarlock and crank 'er till the motor is up solid. It works...
