How do you choose the right length and strength of hatch struts? Most of my hatches are fairly small battery, etc but a couple are big for fuel tank, etc. I guess 10 lb strength, but am kind of lost on what length to use. Is there a rule of thumb?

Latches, what can u reccomend for a locking, corrosion resistant latch for a boat occasionally used in Salt water? Any value options? Some of the plastic ones cost as much as stainless steel ones it seems...

Thank you for replying. I decided on 1/16" thick aluminum 1.5" angle, riveted to 3/4" tube side rails in old bench seat brackets. 1" tube cross braces and vertical supports. 1/2" Exterior plywood w Fiberglass resin on the subfloor came out good.

I am in the process of rebuilding my boat from a slightly modified SW utility boat with bench seats and slotted fir decking to solid decks fore and aft with hatches. I have removed all 4 seats, sanded and painted, and am now planning framing and decking foam and electrical. My plan as of now...
