    New 20 hp

Bought a new 20 hp tohatsu in 2017 to power a 15 ft alumacraft jon. It seems to have the perfect power to weight ratio. Only problem i ever had was leaving the fuel line plugged up to motor during summer time when not in use. The tank will swell up. The cure was to either keep the line...

One winterizing step you might be missing

Back in the late 70's i had an evinrude to freeze and crack the lower unit case. The motor was stowed tilted. The mechanic that replaced the lower unit explained that any water inside of the lower unit. Would migrate if tilted to the weakest part of the case.and freeze. But seeing water...

In between a long and standard shaft - which to choose ?

I mentioned the pods. They are worth their weight in gold. I have two aluminum boats and have pods on both. My experience with them has been that they raise the transom up about 4 inches.higher out of the water. Moving the engine back helped a lot too.....i worked at a johnson dealer back in...

In between a long and standard shaft - which to choose ?

I bought a new 20 hp tohatsu in 2017.to go on an alumacraft 15 ft jon. The tiller handle hit the back of the drivers seat, causing me to fold up the tiller handle in tight turns. Curiously i looked at the cavitation plate vs transom height. The transom is 15 inches but the cavitation plate is...

    Old timers formula questions

A pint of spar varnish, pint of linseed oil, and a quart of thinner should do your boat. It is a great sealer.

    Old timers formula questions

I don't know who was the originater of otf, but they invented something great. I did a 15 ft jon with it several years ago, and after curing out. Took a piece of the boat where i removed to put in a seat base. To home depot and had floor and deck enamel mixed to match the boat. That was 4 years...

    Aluminum Vhull stretcher , WANTED!

In my younger days, remember seeing homemade boats out of plywood, or steel construction. One of the most interesting was a steel boat, made by welding 2 40 ford hoods back to back. It looked like a steel canoe.

    Not a Pontoon

From a philosophy view. You are correct. Rich means different things to different people. Money does make business and finance to go around. From a poor mans view, rich can be considered, exactly what you have said.....i remember mother Teresa as giving millions of dollars away while dying as a...

    War Eagle Jon Boats

War eagles if i am not mistaken, are made in alabama. Several of my friends have them and are very pleased with them. Unless this one is worn out. Look for obvious signs if it has been abused or bent up. I believe they are a quality boat and have a good resale value. Good luck and tight lines.

River rats I need your help picking a boat

Along about 2019, i installed pods on the rear of the boat. It picked up the rear 4 inches. Now i can navigate through tough obstacles. Good luck, which ever way you decide to go.

River rats I need your help picking a boat

Know this thread is a little of a month old, but i might have an idea you might like. 10 years ago, i was where you are today. I bought a 16 hp go-devil for my 15ft jon. When i ordered it i got the optional rock guard. The rivers i fish most are very rocky and shallow with potholes in bends...
