The use of pop rivets for the aluminum patches may create more leaks. They will not seal like a bucking rivet.

Going across the water at speed pounding on choppy water, all those little patches will probably pop loose or fail over a short period...

I still prefer to use one on my boats, it is fail safe device that doesn't need electricity to work.
