This is part 2 in a series of articles as I prepare for Mexico Bass Fishing at Lake Baccarac. If you stumbled upon this article without reading part 1, then you might want to start by clicking here. I’m super excited and a little nervous. I will get over both as there is no turning back now.
So, how does one go about booking a bucket-list trip to Mexico? Well, you can start by googling it, or if you are lucky like me, you know someone who has been organizing and going on this trip for many years. If this trip is as good as I think it will be, I would love to do a yearly Tinboat owners group trip with a bunch of you.
Getting there – Keep Climbing
Let’s start by talking about the location of the lake. Lake Baccarac is located in Sinaloa, Mexico which is in northwestern Mexico. Our group will be traveling from Boston, Massachusettes. There is no direct flight to Sinaloa from Boston. We booked our trip with Delta Airlines and will be flying from Boston to Atlanta, Atlanta to Mexico City, and then from Mexico City to Culiacan. From there, we will be picked up by a shuttle service and have a roughly 3-hour van ride to the lodge. As I type this I feel like I’m in a movie like Sicario. I upped my life insurance and will leave all my valuables at home. I’m just kidding. The safety track record for these trips is excellent.
Where am I staying?
When I first signed on for this trip, I googled everything I could. If you google Lake Baccarac and Bass fishing in Mexico mostly everything points to this place called “Lake Baccarac Lodge”. Being a total newbie to this, I just assumed this was the place we were going to, and the only place that did these kinds of trips.
I was wrong. We will be staying at a place called Pro Bass Adventures – Lake Baccarac. After talking with a bunch of folks who have stayed here in the past and continue to go back again and again, I can say that this place is the real deal and a little known secret among the hardcore bass fishermen that travel down to Mexico to fish for trophy bass.
Again, I have never been here, nor have I been to Lake Baccarac Lodge. The videos and people that have been to both have only positive things to say. This is the way I look at it. I am Greek, but I was born in America. When people find out I’m Greek and they tell me they are going to Greece, the majority always say that they are going to Santorini or Mykonos. That is cool, and that is great, those are tourist areas and designed to let you get a flavor of what Greece is all about. That to me is Lake Baccarac Lodge.
Does that mean the rest of Greece is not worth visiting? Absolutely not. The real beauty is learning and seeing the real Greece, the little known islands and other less traveled areas of Greece. That to me is ProBass Adventures – Lake Baccarac.
Pro Bass Adventures – Lake Baccarac
Pro Bass Adventures Baccarac lodge sits on top of a bluff overlooking the lake and mountains. It sits in the southern part of the lake near the dam. I hear from folks that the food is awesome, the rooms are conditioned, the place is spotless, the rooms have satellite TV (not a big deal to me at all), and there is 24-hour security. How is this for a view?
If you are looking for more pictures, head on over to Pro Bass Adventures – Lake Baccarac and look at the gallery of pictures. Take a look at the rooms and oh my, the food! For once I am going to go on vacation and eat clean and healthy.
Time is winding down
We are less than a couple of months away. Panic mode has not set in just yet. Part 3 in this series will be tackle preparation and what I plan on taking with me down to Mexico. Mexico Bass Fishing is going to become a reality for me before I know it and the excitement is building. Have you been there? Do you have any tips on what kind of tackle to bring? How about any tips at all? I will take them.
Not to make you jealous, but check out this AWESOME 360 overview of Lake Baccarac I took off Facebook, courtesy of Andrea Corradi.
