Good morning,
I have been working on rebuilding this 62' evinrude 18hp and am running into 2 issues:

1) I finished connecting the lower unit and went to connect the shifter lock. The shifter lock F/N/R dimples wont perfectly align with each gear. Did I not properly "calibrate" the shifter lock with the shift rod when initially installing the lower unit? (see below picture of the shifter lock as far back in Reverse as it can go). When hand rotating the crank and simultaneously moving the shifter lock- I can prove the gearcase/shift rod IS working properly. However the shifter lock isnt sitting exactly where it should be with regards to proper shifting of Forward/Neutral/Reverse. And when it is moved to the forward position, it will fall into its respective slot in the shifter lock, however when I rotate the engine- the clutch dog seemes to be in neutral still and the prop doesnt move

2) I installed the aftermarket fuel pump however the shifter lock now completely blocks the fuel line facing the carb. Do I just need to rotate the fuel pump to face the opposite direction and re-route the fuel lines? Or are there some parts from the OEM fuel pump I can use to further extend the fuel pump out and away to clear the shifter lock? (see below picture)

Thank you for any help. I will most likely have further issues down the road....

Before you installed the gearcase did you shift the unit to make sure you got the fulcrum screw in properly? Both arms of the shift cradle in place as well. Very often the brass connector is not installed correctly and will do pretty much what you are describing as well. Third thing to check after you have found and corrected the shift assembly is to adjust it properly. Yes there are adjustments that can be made by loosening the clamp screw on the shift handle and the cam screw found lower and to the left on the handle. This is to adjust so that you are assured of being fully into fwd gear once shifted by hand or control box. Fully into gear in this case means that the clutch dog is fully bottomed out in the forward gear dogs.
As far as the after market fuel pump goes.....not going to touch that one.

Thank you for the reply.
- yes made sure the fulcrum screw is in place. Like i mentioned, i can currently verify the gearcase is working properly. With the shifter lock removed- i can hand rotate the crankshaft while shifting the gears and watch the prop move into reverse, neutral, and forward
- i will try adjusting the clamp screw and cam screw! Didnt think those would affect it
- you seem to understand what im describing. When the shifter lock is 100% forward, the clutch dog seems to be 10% into the forward gear. (I say 10% because when i do my hand rotate test- the prop stays in neutral for the majority, and SOMETIMES barely catches into forward gear but pops out very easily)
And opposite when i try reverse. The shifter lock will only go about 10% into the reverse position (see above picture), however i can tell the clutch dog is 100% in the reverse gear

first one is dead center in your photo. See where the handle is slid onto the shaft? That is a clamp screw with the slot facing vertically. Loosen that one.
Second one is barely visible but easily accessible. It will be behind it a bit. You should see a plate with a curved slot in it. There should be another screw on the handle that locks the handle onto this plate at whatever position you adjust it to.

@Pappy you are the fricken man. Solved it. It was the plate with the curved slot + square nut behind. See picture. I had to adjust that properly. I tested the shifter + rotated the crank and everything is 100%. THANK YOU. I OWE YOU A BEER

Now to figure out this fuel pump line issue.....
