Does 2 inches really matter?

I am looking at two sizes for a big jon boat. The 2070 and the 2072. Does 2 inches really matter between the 2070 and 2072? Both of the boats I am looking at have a 96 inch beam. It's my understanding the wider the beam the more stable the boat can be? The bottom does not matter as much unless its super skinny however I am unsure what 2 inches would do?
 
What is the brand name of the boat you're looking at? I searched google and several manufactures make those model numbers.
There are quite a few. SeaArk, Gale Marine, Weldbilt, Lowe, etc etc. I know hull gauge and build quality matter too. I was just curious of width. Example: SeaArk has a 2072mv and Weldbilt has a 2070mv. Both have a 96 inch beam. Does that make them both just as stable on the water, ignoring the weight of the heavier gauge metal on the SeaArk.
 
If they both have the same beam (top measurement) the 2072 will have more upright sides than the 2070. Both should be just as stable. The 2072 just a little more.

Two main things give a boat (side to side) stability in the water: Overall bottom width, and weight.
Think about walking over to the side of a boat to look over the side. The heavier/wider boat will not list as much. Both issues have to do with the weight that you are trying to 'lift' on the opposite side from where you are standing. The farther the weight is from you, the better.
