Hello,
My son is interested in purchasing a 1983 Lund Pike 16D. I owned a Sea Nymph when I was his age so I think it’s a great style of boat to start off with, I’m looking for any insight from Lund owners or specifically Pike/previous owners that could give me a heads up on things to be aware of. We will be using it to fish inland and the Detroit River for Walleye and Musky. The engine it’s coming with will be replaced with one we already own, just trying to get familiar. Thank you

I have a 1979 Lund S14, so I can't speak to the Pike 16D specifically.

I bought my boat when the pandemic hit; it's the only boat I've ever owned. Even though it's now 44 years old, it doesn't leak, at all. The aft area near the transom is bone dry after a full day on the water.

In the three years I've had the boat, I have replaced the old Johnson 35 that was on it with a new Merc 20 HP, put in new decks, replaced the old Motor Guide Troller with a 55lb Minn Kota Powerdrive outfitted with ProNav unit, and am now replacing the old Lowrance fish finder with a Humminbird Helix 7. The hull is so solid that I'm comfortable with all of these upgrades on this old boat.

Lund has the catalogs by year available for download at this link. Those catalogs will give you the basic specs of the boat you are looking at.

Do the due diligence in checking out the transom and see if there's evidence of water inside hull. If the boat has been taken care of, I think it likely has many more years of use left on it.

Took the ride from Detroit to Chicago to pick it up with a clear understanding that it was a gamble on showing up and the boat being junk, or getting home and finding out after inspection but a gamble I’m comfortable with.

By the looks on the faces of the young lads in the boat.....it doesn't matter the condition....they are stoked! Also, the boat looks VERY clean! Great find!
The boys are going to love fixing it up and fishing it! Beautiful memories in the making for sure!

Curious on what motor you have to replace the one it came with?
Found the answer on your other post...that 35hp will be nice later on, once your young fella gets eome experience on the water.

You appear to be starting out with a much better boat tha n I did.

Have fun and take your time, the reward is worth it.
You did a fantastic job! Thank you for sharing that, I’m looking to get ideas for ours. She cleaned up nicely, but she sat in a barn since she quit running in 2012. So I am going to fix everything I know to then attempt to take her for a ride, we will do the overhaul this winter

What a fun little boat! So far it’s been impressive, but it needs a little tuning. The motor sits a couple inches deeper than it should, I’d love to add a decent jack plate to get it perfectly positioned. I feel that there is water trapped inside. We have had it out a few times and almost nothing comes out but there is about 1/4 inch of water standing in the front of the hill that I can see through the seat post mount.
Once winter comes I hope to go through the hull with a fine tooth comb and make any adjustments/repairs that need be.
We have taken it out a few times, and nothing sticks out as a large concern.
The 35 jumps up on plane easily, and haven’t had anything major yet.
