Good morning group,

I purchased a Johnson/Sea horse 87's outboard motor and have already done some maintenance such as replacing the impeller and cleaning the carburetor. After reassembling it, I placed the NEEDLE VALVE at +/-1 turn. Is this the right fit?

I searched the service manual for specs on the site (in manuals section), but nothing works. :-(

The engine starts fine, but it coughs while doing POOF! and he smokes. Do you have an idea to solve this problem? Should I check the throttle or the needle?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

By the way, I attempted to write to [email protected] to identify the manual availability issue, but the "domain could not be found".
I also have a manual to share: June 1998 edition: SERVICE MANUAL Mercury Outboard 20_25.

Thank you,
Richard :)

Thank you guys! I will try this week and I let you know the result. Really appreciate!

Merci les gars! Je vais essayer cette semaine et je vous tiens au courant. J'apprécie beaucoup!
Richard :)

I always start at 1 1/2 turns out and go from there, with that said, did you clean out that passage for that needle really well ?? Slightest spec of dirt can change everything !
Check the end of the needle carefully, I have saw where the end was damaged from over tightening and that can cause issues also.....just some food for thought...
