Hey everyone new member here, been lurking the forums a long time while in search of a Jon boat project. Finally ran across this boat at a really good deal. It’s a 1984 sea nymph 1648 mod-v with a 1976 mercury 500 thunderbolt 50hp outboard with power trim. Boat and trailer needs restoration and motor needs new engine and boat harness. Started on the trailer having to replace the cross members so I decided to weld the trailer together while I was at it. Hoping to have trailer done this weekend and painted so I can start on the boat tear down and seal and paint it.

Thanks I’m excited to get started on the boat. Iv ordered about all the main stuff I will need like electronics, wire to re-wire the whole boat, switch panels fuse box. Iv also got goop coat it to seal the floor and I’m going to be using totalboat single stage paint. It’s going to be a total rebuild and done right. I’m a diesel mechanic by trade and iv done my fair share of body and paint work so all the work will be done by me I won’t outsource anything. The only thing I’m unsure about is the transom wood, I need to study up a bit more on that.

Plenty of resources around to see how you’d like to do your transom it’s not a crazy hard task. You’ll have a nice rig when you’re done to me it’s absolutely worth the work.

awesome, I see it’s got a plate across the top of the transom so I’m assuming that plate comes off if I remove the bolts and grind off the rivets

Took the day off work, Got the trailer painted early this morning, im going to wrap the runners in carpet and should have the trailer done tonight so I can get started on the boat this weekend.

Got the lights ran and hooked up tonight and boards cut and drilled, and coated the boards so I’m going to let them dry overnight and wrap them in the morning and I will get the boat back on the trailer and start on the boat.

Got a little bit done today, got the boards wrapped and bolted on the trailer, new wheels and tires haven’t arrived yet so painted the old ones to use up the leftover paint from the trailer and put them back on for now. Got the boat swapped back onto the trailer and backed into the shop but decided to take the evening to go wet a hook for a while. Plan on working on the boat for a few hours tomorrow then going to spend the rest of the day with family.

Nice project, I redid a little 14ft Alumacraft last year, now a 74 Lund r14.
On the Ubolts on your axle, looks to be only 1 ubolt per side. Not sure it looks right?

Thanks, they are definitely rewarding once finished. I thought so as well but after some research on the ez loader trailers from that era one u-bolt is the way they came. This trailer was all bolt together and I wasn’t thrilled with the flimsiness of it for the weight of the boat, so iv gone through reconstructed it a bit.

Got a little done today, I Got the floor ripped out up to the front casting deck and got the floor vacuumed out. Got all the wiring and steering out.

Got some more work on the boat done this weekend. We got the transome replaced, the inside cleaned out and got the foam board cut and test fit. Then got all the rivets sealed up and inside painted.Still need to pull the foam out of back corners and redo that. Boats coming together pretty quick as iv been working on it 8-9 hours a day on the weekends. Should have rest of the foam done and outside painted this week. Then hoping to get the floor in next weekend and start wiring ever thing up and plumbing the livewell. Hoping to do a test run on the water by June 1st. Still have some work to do on the motor.

Keep it up brotha! It’s def a pile of work but so worth having a new boat the way you want it in the end at a fraction of the cost

I appreciate it!! And yes i agree once I’m finished I’m going to put a total up of what I have in it. It’s definitely cheaper than a new boat this size, and it will be setup for my needs.

Came home from work today and decided to redesign the original decals for this boat and print off some other stuff for a couple customers to pick up.

Well I got the boat flipped over this weekend and got a little work done. Had a rough week at work so didn’t do much this weekend but did manage to get the outside sanded, rebucked a few rivets and got the sealer on. So the boat has been sealed inside and out, had to pop a few rivets in some holes in the transom from screws and sealed with 5200. I used goop coat it on the inside and out and seems to be some good stuff but was pushing the 30 minute work time on the bottom of the boat even with 2 people, but we got it done just in time!

so I did get some paint on the boat Friday after work, I got it back on the trailer today and backed into the shop. I’m going to start on the floor tomorrow and hopefully get some wiring done. Some Cdi electronics got dropped off today, so I can get the boat wired as well.

Haven’t posted in a while but got a lot done in the past few weeks. Got the interior signs covered in carpet and put in the boat got the new dash made and mocked up with steering whee installed and switches. Also got all the wires ran up to the console just need to wire in the switches to the fuse panel and got the livewell pump and bilge pump mounted. Got the motor mounted last weekend and wired in. Getting very close to finishing up this boat and getting on the water. Got some wiring and plumbing to do then I can bolt in the livewell/ seat base and get the seats mounted, the battery’s installed and the storage hatches mounted and then it’s on to firing the motor and finishing up the maintenance on that and time for a test run. I got a bit behind schedule with having to work out of town for a week so I don’t know if I will hit my eta test run of 1st weekend in June but I’m going to try.
