Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Taxes in NJ seem to double ever two or three years lately. Most don't have big buildings because they add to the taxable value of the property. They even tax you for the square footage of paved spaces. I have a house thats single floor, with an unfinished basement and 5ft tall attic, the...

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

I hung the trolling motor on the Starcraft this morning and took it out on a local lake for a bit, I was there from 6am to around1pm, and was the only boat on the water, at a lake with two ramps and parking for at least 40 or so rigs. I found this when I got home on CL, about a 20 minute ride...

Fix or part out? 1956 Johnson 18hp

I don't know where you got that from me saying I bought a boat with a 1964 18hp on it? I never said when I bought my boat, I just said that when I first bought it had a 1964 motor that sucked fuel. Every two stroke I've ever owned as been hard on fuel. The only boat that was better than expected...

Fix or part out? 1956 Johnson 18hp

I'm in New Jersey, about an hour out of Philly. Prices here have skyrocketed lately, most good sources either never reopened after 2020 or they were never the same again. Walmart has been worthless since then. They cut down the size of the boating, fishing, and auto sections and doubled the...

Fix or part out? 1956 Johnson 18hp

When I first bought my 16ft boat it had a 1964 Evinrude 18hp on it, the motor ran great but drank fuel like crazy. I was used to my 14ft boat and its 9.5hp that would run all day on 6 gallons of gas and oil. I happened on a 9.9 four stroke and never looked back, the 9.9 four stroke will go all...

Fix or part out? 1956 Johnson 18hp

I'd fix it but that's me. even if its only for occasional use, those are cool looking and great running motors, it just that lately we seem to have lost most of the types of boaters who appreciate those motors. There does however seen to be a bigger market for parts then whole motors. I've...

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Something i can't figure out is how if you go to a farm auction, they get $10-$15 for a meat chicken, but i can buy one all cleaned, seasoned, and roasted for $9 at the super market. Things are super screwed up, the number of dirt cheap boats has amazed me, I grabbed this one this morning...

    CL Surprise

I sold the trailer it came on on Wed. I sold the 16ft today, after taking it out on a local pond with a trolling motor I remembered why I liked my Mirrocraft so much. The Starcraft does not have teh walk through seat option or side console like my Mirrocraft, or my SF14, also being an older...

    CL Surprise

My main concern was making it home without the trailer losing a tire or bearing. I didn't know what shape it was in and sort of just took the chance figuring if I did have trouble, hopefully I'd be close enough to home to just drag it home no matter what. But the thing did great, no bearing...

    CL Surprise

The shocking part though is that it was listed for over four weeks with no takers. Right now, all I've got invested is the fuel in my truck, about $45 or so. I saw it a few weeks ago but it was already an older ad, so I passed it over, but when it renewed and stayed up I replied, sort of...

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Its like that all over. I'm currently going through the task of trying to find a new homeowners policy, I've been dropped by four over the past four years. One won't insure me because I have a 'commercial' truck, (my F250 4x4 with a cap on it that tows my boats), another dropped me because I...

    CL Surprise

I was about to post this as a reply to the post here about a lot of seized motors but figured I'd best start a new thread as this is going to take a bit of explaining here. Saturday I answered an ad on CL, about 50 miles from me here. The ad said "Several old antique outboards, make offer". I...

    Lot of stuck motors

I wasn't a Snap On guy but I did a lot of repairs for a few local dealers who dealt used boxes all the time back in the 80's. Every part of those boxes could be had in pieces, just like for a car. If someone ran into one with a car or dropped it off a truck and it got traded in, I'd replace the...

    Lot of stuck motors

Looks like a KRA59/380 SET, A KRL1201/1991, COMBO and an early SK/Mac/Matco 900 series roll cab from the Waterloo years. Those are good pro grade boxes. Add a fill of Snap On tools and there some serious cash there. Also some serious weight if your putting them down stairs.

    Marine Oil?

Around here the tell tale sign of an East Penn made battery is their style of sealed top, side venting cover. With older Interstate its always been the style of cap they used and refillable cells. The Clarios made AC Delco I just bought has neither and says made in Canada. on the label but has...

    Marine Oil?

Not really, Clarios was a brand or company that was created by Exide after Johnson Controls sold their battery division. Johnson Controls did not sell out or become Clarion as a whole. Clarion is not the same as old Johnson Controls. At least that's how the stock holders report shows it. JCI...

    Transom Construction Best Practices

I redid the transom in my old Grumman 16ft boat, it was a full length/depth transom that was originally just two sheets of 3/4 ply that lasted about 30 years or so with normal use stored in an old barn when not in use. When I redid it, I used exterior plywood, a sheet of 8 ply exterior ACX...

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Things like this that just sit for weeks is a good tell tale of how many are still boating these days here A later model 15hp for $250 with electric start wouldn't have lasted an hour five or ten years ago. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1422997885252408 Its likely one of the most...

    Smart Alternator

I bought a 250a from DB for mine, then tossed the regulator for an older Ford one. Kick the 6g alternator to the curb and go with the older, 3g and never look back. Be sure to run new, heavier, at least 4ga. cables to each battery too and run double grounds. The wiring to the rear of most...

Still looking for that little boat.

I got a kick out how you call $2k a 'cheapy', around here that's a $400 boat lately. I bought a 1990 Sea Nymph bass boat with aluminum floors that needed a lower unit reseal for $400, and thought I paid too much. I fixed the lower and sold it, it took till last month to finally get $1,000 for...
